Propshaft UJ's
While replacing the handbrake shoes I decided to also renew the UJ's on both shafts.
The rear shaft was straight forward, but the front in another story...
The original (from new) have the grease nipple in the centre of the UJ
& the only UJ's available here in Maun have their nipples on the side (as per the rear shaft).
So my question is, will the nipples be broken/damaged when the axel & propshaft articulate?
& also, how on god's green earth do you get a torque wrench onto the nuts/bolts when refitting?
The supplier says that it will be fine, but would like to confirm this with all the pros on here.
Many thanks in advance... Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

No need to torque them to be honest, tight will be enough. Always worth replacing the nylocs, but most people don't! The grease nipples should be fine, if they are too long on the new ones, take nipple out of the old one and swap them.

I said 'nipple' Very Happy

There is a special tool available for those fastenings but it's not much more than a thin walled socket..

Random sample:

You can achieve the same effect by grinding down a decent socket. The secret is to turn the prop a bit at a time and secure the fastening in the open yoke as you go - this can be achieved with the use of a jack and observing the obvious safety precautions. Steve.

Any chance anyone has the LR part number for the front universals?
Is TVC500010 correct?
Did not realise that they are larger than the rears...

Nipples...
Yes they are too long & forgot to take one of the old ones out before removing... Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Thanks for all the info.
Will be heading into Maun this morning to collect the correct UJ's.
Glen, I know Charles well. He left Lesedi about a year ago and have not seen him since. Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

I would not call those photos that old Laughing
About all that has changed is the 2 old car lifts have been replaced with 1 new one
& there are way more government vehicles around in various states of repair.
I'll try remember to get some pics when next in town... Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
