They all do that sir, especially if you have a window open. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Plus one! When it's over 50 centigrade in the Pilbara on a long run prior too heat mitigation measures then they get very hot! |

Mine stays cool to the touch providing that my windows are shut. Opening windows increases fuel consumption, increases deafening rate and increases cab temperature at least at higher speeds.

Anyone care to explain how slightly increased convection around an object and constant transfer of air in and around it's local area serves to heat it up?
Not saying it doesn't happen (it's a Land Rover ), but what has been presented here don't make much sense !? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

I suspect that the effect is more likely to be caused by the fact that the inside of the vehicle is depressurised when the window is open (since there seems to be no other 'outlet' for cabin air, certainly not on my DC, other than the general poor fit of doors) allows hot air from underneath to be drawn up through the many ill-fitting panel joints in the seat box assembly.
Look on it as another of those lovable Defender quirks. |

lovable
but that's what I've always assumed. It doesn't happen in a TD5 with the bulkhead vents because that's pressurising the cabin. |

I lagged my exhaust from the joint of the down pipe right through and get very little heat now. But many miles driving rough country with spinifex growing wildly in the middle of tracks has taken it's toll on the lagging so that's a job for the future.
