Also (as I've found) check that the exhaust manifold isn't warped and leaking out past the gasket - I've done all the aforementioned and turns out it was that although given there was grease and whatnot everywhere it wasn't as obvious as I'd have expected. Made a HUGE difference fixing that. Easy to find if you spray a bit of WD40 on it at idle (cold) as will bubble out round the leaking area of the gasket. (Apols if teaching you to suck eggs, I'm a noob myself so could be dead obvious to everyone else!)

I tried this - understand if it's the MAF it should result in a pretty obvious improvement if you unplug it (although not as good as if working properly)... it wasn't the MAF on mine although replaced it anyway. If you do, everywhere I've read says buy genuine btw! |

Hi, in my experience the turbo actuator rod is meant to be stiff to move and you are unlikely to be able to move it by hand, usually a wiggle with a pair of grips is enough to free it off.
Have you got access to a code reader? This would tell you is the Maf sensor was not working or had a low reading. Mine was reading a little low at idle and was changed for a new one and has made a difference in low down torque more than anything else. The values changed from about 35 to 60 at idle warm engine. Only get a original or OE one though as said before |

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. I have had the actuator off and used rock-oil/plus gas to work it. It's stiff, but I can get full movement with pliers. I have replaced the MAF for a new unit and I have also changed the rocker cover loom. All oil has been cleaned from the red plug, and I'll continue to pull & clean it over the next few weeks to clear the remaining oil. The MAF is still no different whether it is plugged or unplugged. I have also pulled the intercooler hoses and they're all clear, with just a light misting of oil. All hoses appear to be in good working order. I can't see any obvious signs of a gasket leak. I also replaced is the fuel filter on the chassis and did the purge trick. Tried plugging in with SNAP-ON, BOSCH & Autel diagnostics but non would communicate with the Land Rover, but did get power from the OBD. Is it a case of having to use Land Rover specific diagnostics? I'm at a loss! |

Cheers. Just checked the MAP & pulled the hose off the EGR; both as clean as a whistle, it's like it has done a lot less miles than it has!
Noticed an exposed wire on the red plug to the ECU, a potential issue? ETA: Just taken it for a good run and it's better for it. Seems alot more lively when it's made temp. Only really sluggish when cold. Still cant notice any difference between MAF on or off. Cheers |

Injector seals? I have just done the loom and these on mine and cured the problem. Mine was also fine with or without MAF. 2002 110 td5

It does seem a different beast when it's up to temp, thing is I only do short miles.
I'll check it out
Thank you kindly for the offer, I have phoned Mike @ Dynachip as he is only round the corner from me, but I suspect he is on holiday at the moment. Last night I changed the engine oil & all filters, flushed and bled the clutch, fixed the pedal squeak with white grease, replaced the front & rear axle oil with EP90... getting there! |
