No, it should be fine. It would fail if a cat had been removed, but not the EGR.

I had jo problems with mine,
My car is a 1999 but I recently replaced the engine with a later 15 p engine like yours. Before I fitted it I removed the whole egr system and there was no issue with the mot |

Hi folks,
I am new to td5 or even Land Rover diesels, my last restoration was a V8 3.9. What are the pros and cons of removing the egr valve? Sorry if it is a stupid question!, |

Basically the motor breaths much better with restriction of air into the motor. The EGR is a massive space occupying lesion, I notced immediate differences in acceleration and driveability. Also less crap to go wrong. The EGR can throw codes and gets you chasing unecessary repairs.

Earlier TD5's weren't fitted with a cat Optimists say the glass is half full.. Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! Last edited by taffrican on 29th Jul 2016 4:48pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Likewise. I fitted a decat pipe to my Puma as a temporary measure after the flange broke off the top of the original downpipe, intending it to stay put only whilst I repaired the cat pipe, but three years or so later it is still fitted. The MOT man either hasn't noticed or doesn't care for the last three MOTs, and the vehicle runs and drives noticeably better without the cat. The underbonnet temperatures are greatly reduced, and the driver's footwell no longer radiates heat into the cabin. All in all a massive improvement, except, presumably, the in emissions department.
I admire the courage, but I am not sure I'd have done this! Me: "Excuse me, Mr MOT man, if I bring an unroadworthy vehicle for an MOT will you fail it?" MOT Man: "I should, but I won't because I have one too!" With my luck that's not how it would go if I tried that one. |

I'm also in Fife, Tank, and my posher motor is a D2 with:
no egr no cat no centre box big intercooler equally fancy radiator (not important but looks gorgeous too) Alive tune (apparently) All this was done before I bought the car. I have now had 2 MOTs through Burnside Autocentre, Auchtermuchty (we've used them in their various guises for 50-60 years) with absolutely no problems. My tweaked 200Tdi Defender always passes too. Hope this helps. |

Fortunately he's a freind of mine and I often run mods by him and he's a good source for tech knowledge too Optimists say the glass is half full.. Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

Finding an MOT tester that perhaps 'turns a blind eye' or passes something he shouldn't is a very rare commodity these days. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

mine flew through the mot. No cat and no egr. The emissions were really low and so much so he commented on how clean it was and said he'd had low catorgry tax veichles put out more.
I d9 service it very regularly and it had just been done if it makes anydifference 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

^^^ Did you point out to him that the emissions test is supposed to be done with the engine running?
Seriously that is a good result, well done! |

nah. He went on to say some of the low tax cars he sees are bad on the emissions as they don't all get serviced.
Stuff like dirty air filters and engines that never get warm screw up their results 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

Mine was motd the other week.
No cat, no egr, no centre box. Flew through the smoke test. According to the readout it was way way below the pass limit. |
