I am pretty sure that my Puma does not have any earth in the box under the drivers seat. There are some relays there that can cause bother but its usually the car cutting out or something.
Where do the Rev Counter and Temp Gauge signals come from before the cluster? The ECU? There is an earth stud in the drivers seatbox, it also is a mounting point for some of the fuse box tabs. (Metal)
More than likely loose connector on the rear of the dial cluster, they've been known to become loose even without touching it. It'd also be worth disconnecting the battery before touching it and leaving it disconnected for a while. Then see if the issue is cured. |

So finally got around to pulling the cluster off. It un plugs it and is one solid unit. Looking into the vents I can see green motherboard style interior so I didn't bother going any further. I gave the connections good blow (that sounds dodgy ) in the hope it would make a diff. Still no joy. Have you gone further and actually pulled the cluster apart?
I couldn't find the earth beneath the drivers seat with the fuse box. (As nick said earlier). I guess now I'll start trying to find loose earths elsewhere. Is there a list somewhere of earth locations for a 2012 ? Cheers! Tom |

Ok. So I found the earth under the drivers wheel arch. One end looked as though it could tightened. As soon as I tightened it snapped clean off so I'm wondering if it's OK to revonnect the earth to a neighbouring bolt?
As you can see in the picture there's the broken earth end on the left. And the bolt I'd like to connect it to the right. It's not exactly part of the same chassis. Also is the car undrivable without this earth correctly attached? |

Yes, another bolt would be fine.
Just make sure it's pretty substantial and clean metal, probably best to spry a touch or rustproofing or grease or similar over it afterwards. |

Thanks Steve. It's just been freshly waxoyl'd last week so not exactly clean bare metal. I can try and get as much of it off the bolt and I'll be using a fresh nut.

Could somebody answer me some questions. I have been reading on Ashcroft Transmissions web site the benifits of fitting the 1.222 gearing to my transfer box. The sight states that it drops the revs down from 2919 at 70mph to 2530 revs about 15 percent.Does anyone know what 2530 revs relate to mph on my standard gearing l would like to hear and feel what it is like before committing my money to this project. I do a lot of motorway driving feel it would benifit me my passengers and my Landy. One last thing the tyres size are 235/85/16.

On the puma dashboard issue - I've had a similar problem where one of the relays under the dash by your knees had come loose. Shoved them all back in again and it started working fine again.
TD5 gearing (you'd have been better starting a new thread rather than tagging on to a completely different one btw): If 2919RPM is 70MPH on the old gears and that changes to 2530RPM on the new ones, a simple bit of maths using ratios give you the road speed for 2530RPM on the current gears. (70/2919)*2530=60.7MPH However, bear in mind that's only the engine revs, wind noise (not that it's really noticeable in a TD5), transmission and tyre noise are not affected. |

I had the same problem as described , I ended replacing my Cluster.
