Which seal and how can I check?
Bonsoir a tous,

Bit of oil showing under the hub cap and spraying the rear right wheel. Only been a couple of days, as it was clear of oil/spray when I cleaned the Def over the weekend. Not done more than 50kms in that time either, so hopefully not too much oil lost (if it's from the Diff). But I'm not sure whether this is a drive shaft seal failure or hub seal failure? Can anyone tell from the photos and give me an idea of what to check to be sure? Help much appreciated as ever. If anyone wants to offer advice and give Blackwolf a break as he's become my personal mechanic's mate recently, I am sure he'd appreciate it!! Rolling with laughter

Many thanks, great diagram. Easy job? Anything else worth doing at the same time. Perhaps a diff oil change? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Errrr ...is not that drive member dust-cap split? Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

[Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc]

Yes. Does that mean anything or is it just an observation and something else that needs to be ordered? No influence on the leaking oil? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hi Grenadier the oil/grease you see on the wheel will be coming from the split in the dust cap. It weeps out between the splines of the drive flange and shaft, you can clearly see the oil/grease around the end of the shaft in your last image. At under £1 for a cap it's a cheap and easy fix to try instead of pulling your axle apart Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon
