United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Orkney Grey
I had half promised the Santorini bits to a friend, but not confirmed yet.

The santorini black does appear to scratch quite easily and whilst look great from a far if you look closely they are already quite scratched. See photos below. I'll chase my mate to see if he wants them if not, then L110CDL can have first dibs.

I really do want to do something with the wheels, as I really dislike the silver colour. I am delaying spending any more until next year, as I've already spent far too much! I hope I might have made a decision by then also. However I am (pretty much) decided that the new/painted wheels won't be black, I personally prefer Anthracite to get a contract between the wheel and tyre. My idea was then to paint the grille light surround anthracite to match. The beauty is it can be done relatively inexpensively so you can (unlike the wheels) just go back to original if you don't like it.

I think that will look quite unique - the anthracite combo of wheels and front end Thumbs Up Wondering if the anthracite grille would potentially clash with the Orkney, but perhaps it will just give it enough contrast to stand out while keeping with the grey shades. MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html

Very Happy JOW, trust me, I meant it in a good way, I do think it would look good. Have I said 'interesting', then that would be a reason to worry Wink

The anthracite sawtooths definitely look ace. There is another member on here with a Scotia 110, 90Andy I think, and he has the same wheels on - very nice. And on your Orkney they will look a treat. You may not need to change the grille though in the end, as the Brunel silver is likely to sit well with those wheels.

But so I don't make it easy for you...there are the Bowlers in anthracite too...and the Twisted Rolling with laughter

I actually remember to have seen a photo of a grey 110 with anthracite 16 inch Twisted on, great combination! If you opt for the sawtooths though, you are keeping it more 'factory'...sorry, I know you have been on this subject for some time! MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html

Yes love 90Andy scotia Defender, it's one in my 'wheels' folder. Unfortunately most wheels are available in Anthracite!

I've narrowed it down to either, Twisted, Bowler, Manta Argento, Or possibly even Blindo's, either 16" or for those available, 17" would be my preference. Shocked Got until next spring to decide, unless some 17" Twisted came up and I would snap them up! James

I like how you used the term 'narrowed' it down Wink

I've been there, not an enviable position!

I feel a free man now I made a decision Very Happy Having said that, I have to admit I'm thinking of 16'' black Bowlers as a 'winter' set Rolling with laughter They say it's advisable to have a separate set for winter tyres - any excuse will do... MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html

Many thanks JOW, will wait for your answer Thumbs Up

Jaro, are you sure the Bowlers are good for the winter wheels, i would think that the Blindo's are better and more rugged Rolling with laughter Just a little thought for you Rolling with laughter 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I have been going through the same dilemma re what to do with my grill and light surrounds. Nice to see you have confirmed that the grey looks better than the black! 1999 Defender 110

I prefer the grey but it's personal taste.

Ps the black grille and surrounds now sold. Thanks L110CDL. Thumbs Up James

Personal taste yes. Just seems to be a little more classic. I'm sure there are many that prefer the black! 1999 Defender 110

BAS170AB + BAS Hi-Flow intercooler + silicone hoses
The best mod by far was completed last week....

Visited Pete Bell at BAS for a 170AB remap, new BAS Hi-Flow intercooler and shiny blue silicone hoses. Pete's knowledge is amazing and I had total confidence in his work (useful when you see him take a blow torch to the ECU!).

The transformation is truly incredible, total improvement in driveablitily, much smoother power application and just pulls and pulls in every gear, even from low revs. My wife commented how much better it was! I don't think I'll be seeing any improvement in MPG until the enjoyment of having so much oomph has worn off!

Colour coded wing mirrors
Just a minor purely cosmetic mod, but an improvement in my opinion...

Very easy to do. I bought some colour coded mirror backs so all ready to go. Unscrew the wing mirror, sit in just off the boil water to warm the rubber and peel it off, swap over the metal and plastic plates in the mirror and reassemble, very easy, even I didn't struggle! James
