Issue with Heated Rear Window and Headlamp
Hi everyone! I'm a new bee here! Smile

I acquired a '14 Defender 90 about 6 months ago and am loving it! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

A weird problem occurred a few days ago. The heated rear window switch and the headlamp switch seems to have connected to each other. If I turn on the head lamp, the heated rear window turns on together; and, vice versa.

I have looked at the electric wiring diagram. Honestly, I'm not good at it and cannot figure where where may be the short circuit. Have you seen similar problem? Do you have any hints where I may start looking?

Thanks much!

Welcome to D2net. Strange issue you have there. Not heard of thet one before.

Is it really the headlamps that have become "connected" to the HRW, or is it the sidelights? If it is the sidelights, the most obvious place to look is the heater rear window switch, as they are connected through the switch illumination. Pull it out and check the connector, and for any signs of having got too hot. As mse says, a bad earth is the most common cause of stuff like this. Anything been modified on the vehicle recently? 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Thanks guys!

You are right, it is the sidelights actually. Let me look into the HRW switch.

The car hasn't done any mod recently. I have light bar put on a while ago with illuminated switches installed above the console. Maybe that's related too?

Somehow the problem fixed itself before I could find a time to trace the wires!
