Re coating patriot
Has anyone had thier patriot re powder coated? My 130 one is starting to look tired.

Do you strip it into pieces and remove all the bolts or get it done in one piece? Rough prices? 1951 80" S1 2.0

Problem with powder coating is it chips and I don't rate it for things such as racks. I have the same issue on mine so looking at either galvanising or coating in line X. Spoke to a line X dealer who was thinking around £300 for the coating.

I had mine ceramic coated and it was much better than the powder coating. ISTRC it was about the same money your talking about. Perhaps it has gone up as it was a few years ago. It was done via Patriot as a warranty issue. I found it a huge improvement over the origional powder coating with no subsequent new areas of chipping or flaking. My only problem areas were where some of the existing corrosion areas did not look to be prepped properly and subsequently re corroded.

Ho, ho, good luck with that, if it's a few years old! It's a complete nightmare getting the original (stainless) countersunk SHC screws out once they've 'welded' themselves to the aluminium, and will require a lot of drilling and probably quite a few new brackets. Big Cry

I would be interested to hear how you get on with whatever approach you decide to follow. My Patriot rack has had probably 10 years of hard use (it wasn't new when I bought it) and is well scratched etc. It is also starting to suffer quite extensively from that bubbling corrosion that comes up under the powder coat, and it is in my mind that the time may be coming to do something about it. I am not sure that just recoating is the answer though.

I've had my 110 Patriot rack for 14 years which has now seen service across four 110's!

That equates so far to around 350,000 miles of use and in that time I have had it blasted and re-powder coated twice.

I stripped it apart as best I could (as has been said some fasteners just will NOT budge) but left some sections assembled where I could not get them apart.

Cost of having it done was around £350 and seems to last 5-6 years before it starts to look shabby again.

I had not considered alternative coatings but something that did not chip so easily would be a better alternative.

Mine is (I think) a hannibal, that has been on the car ~15 years. Bare ally, no coating. Holding up really well actually, the only surface damage is patina rather than damage.
