Zero change with new clutch/bearing, new clutch hydraulics or gearbox oil. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I do think mine is improving with age.

Just started driving her again ... been garaged since October!!! (other projects/pressures, then a cycling accident put me out from driving for 2 months).

At 30,000 miles, with the LTB00585 mod done, and now 2 changes of gearbox oil, she seems a bit better. Still needs to change 1-2 slowly and deliberately... but getting better

Only time she's bad is when cold, on a hill start, when you need to be quick 1-2 to keep momentum...

Bizarre, but 1st time I changed the oil, I used "upgrade" Castrol synthetic oil,... but most recent oil was "carplan" cheap stuff (still with correct properties) from Halfrauds... I think the cheap stuff may help!!! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Ditto what AgentMulder said.. I changed the clutch plate and cover, bearings, fluids, gearbox output shaft.. Still the same cr4ppy MT-82 we've all come to loathe and hate! ... ,-------,

Same here. Changed the clutch and main bearing, installed the shims, tried different oils (Motul 3000) and additives (Ceramic Power Liquid), adjusted clutch travel and tried driving with or without rubber mats. No real difference.

I Read from here (http://www.defender2.net/forum/post87098.html) that Ford recommends a special friction modifier for Mustang gearboxes (they also use a version of MT82 and have reputation for poor shifting). Haven’t yet tried this, so maybe worth a try. Tough I haven’t seen the additive for sale on this side of the pond.

Don't think any gear changing "method" will make any difference,...it's obviously something to do with the design & working of the syncro going into 2nd gear.

Anyway, FWIW in my case it's been helpful - and I mean that, it's not just me justifying a morning's work Wink Rolling Eyes Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

OK, spent a tank of diesel so far with the insert mod.

Seriously better.

Took a while to get used to it actually, just to plonk it into second directly. But of the I dunno, hundreds of changes (?), I recall one hands worth with any hint of a 'croik' noise, and even then it was minimized. For me and my vehicle, I'd consider this case closed (YMMV). Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
