Been loading the trailer this evening, the 110 is still on the naughty step at my local independent specialist. 5 replacement recon injectors fitted today (that's another 5.......) and to quote the guy doing the work 'it sounds disgusting at tickover'.
Going to be coming in the vw camper at this rate ![]() Chris |

I haven't used a cb in 35 years but do use amateur radio and pmr so can offer these wee bits of advice: Leave about a second when you key the mic before you speak or your transmission will drop the first few words which can be very frustrating for others trying to understand your message. This is because your radio will take time to process your clicking the switch on the mic. Try speaking across the mic rather than directly into it which can distort your speech. Until you get the hang of the radio try to plan what you are going to say and try to keep each message as minimalist and pertinent as possible, it is very easy to get carried away and talk for ages which is fine if you are in a conversation but not for specific/safety messages. You might want to organise a Chat Channel for yourselves and a Safety Channel for use when you are Off Road, for example. Lastly, remember you will be transmitting on a public frequency so you don't know who might be listening. It might surprise you but there are people all over the country, and in the general area of your trip, that monitor the airwaves and like to cause trouble by taking over the channel by talking gibberish with each other just to annoy you! I know, I had this last year countless times driving up the A9! I hope you don't mind my sticking my neb in, I wish I had had some sort of email with some pertinent advice when I started. |

JR,
what channel do people usually sit on to pick people "up" (sounds dodgy ![]() Is it channel 14 then agree to move on?? Cheers My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Hi Enid,
I haven't a clue about CB channels these days as I use Amateur Radio and pmr. As far as the 'listeners' are concerned, they will scan and then adopt a busy channel and keep talking so you can't get in and tell people to shift. In fact the 8u663r5 would probably follow you! Maybe best to plan to shift to a specific, unadvertised channel.... |

Ill be doing my level best to make sure the weekend is enjoyable for everyone and runs smoothly! I'm sure there will probably be some vehicular entertainment of our own making....... Just been looking at the weather forecast- not that the weather forecast often reflects what happens up there but its currently looking like; Friday- Fine/Dry Saturday- Cloudy with sunny spells, looking like it could be a bit breezy Sunday- Sunny with cloudy spells Fingers crossed the weather is as forecast! Re; the photo of the discovery.
The background of the photo makes it look VERY rocky and uneven, there is a really nice clean line through the river at that point (those folk with a 110 might need a 'shunt' on the entry as its quite a tight bend as you drop into the river bed) - its a bit scrabbly to get out once your tyres are a bit wet sometimes but its fine. I had a bit of a nightmare getting through there in winter 2010/11 doing a tuition session after heavy snowfall. Snow had drifted very deep in the river bed (which was frozen) - we drove through but didn't manage to carry enough momentum to get up the other side due to a lack of grip on the ice and the snow being bumper depth in the river! Had a good 30minute session of airing down the tyres and then shunting back and fore through the river and frantically digging to get it out and retreat in the direction from whence we came! Good times" Chris |

Sooooo.... shunt what is that? Reason I am asking is that I probably fall into the shiny Defender category
![]() Aaaand, should I consider buying some sort of PMR set that I can hook up into any channel for general discussion etc when we are out and about? |

A Shunt,
Making a manoeuvre in multiple moves. eg. turning a tight corner in a 110- It might be you may need to to 'take two bites' at it, so turn in, reverse slightly to get a better position and then continue to make the turn successfully. Whereas a shorter 90 might make it in a one-er! We may or may not use that particular section of track depending on what the forestry guys are doing and what condition its in- I'm concious that a few guys are driving very new, very shiny vehicles so there may be certain areas of the tracks which are overgrown/washed out that may not be suitable!
