Sure it is not the cap?
These things start to leak every few thousand miles. Here in SA we have a "rule of thumb" that you should replace your cap every 10k km (+_ every 7000 miles). They are cheap (£7 odd per cap from dealers) so worth changing regularly! Allisport makes a nice allu tank that replaces the standard one. The only issue I have with those is......how the heck do you see the coolant level? |

Seen those before too but your point is very valid! I guess you'd have to dip the tank literally just to check?.. IIRC they do others too i.e. PAS fluid. But the point in it is next to none IMO. They aren't even some nice trick colours just raw silver. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

I can't see the level in the standard tank and always use a pencil to dip it.

I just shake the tank a little, and the fluid level becomes visible.

Shine a torch against the side of the tank and you will see the level of fluid. I would also check that its not the cap leaking - I have had a few leak. In hot climates when the cap leaks it can lead to overheating...... 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Mine seems to leak if I fill it up to the level mark. Then on a long run it drops maybe 2cm but no further! I'll do as others do and get a new cap to se if that makes a difference.

Have leaking coolant tank and smell of antifreeze. It looks like manufacturing joint to me, as no fluid residue from cap.
Goes in for intermediate shaft work (!) on 6/6, will add this to list! |

Splitting at the seam is a common fault on older Land Rovers.
With regard to the caps, must be a hot country thing as I've never heard of people needing to change them on a regular basis. Mine is date-stamped 1991 so has seen its fair share of use. |

I've had to replace the expansion tank caps on a couple of my previous Puma's but don't recall them failing on previous models I've had. For whatever reason I definitely think it's a Puma thing. Steve.
