What are these things?
First picture, what is the thing on the left that looks like a bit of scrunched up tin foil, and what's the hat that it goes under? Should the hat be attached on properly rather than just flapping around?

Second, has anyone ever seen a dent in this pulley before, any ideas what has caused it and do I need to be careful when ordering a new one?

1st one is a heat shield.

The pulley? Has the engine been out of the vehicle? Is it a replacement, it may have been damaged when fitting. 80" 1948

First one is a heat shield that sits over the twin wire electrical plug on top of the bell housing, flywheel sensor.
Common to see them come adrift, or missing.

The alloy pop rivet rubs due to vibration then becomes loose.
Also a cause of an annoying rattle!

Can't say what caused the dent in the tensioner pulley?
Maybe someone had a lever or bar against it at some point??

Or a long shot would be something got trapped between belt and pully while running?

I would go for it being used as a lever point for something.... 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

I'd say the same for the pulley, it's right next to the pretensioner so you need to use a lever to remove the belt.
However, looks like it wasn't done carefully and who ever it was was forceful and crack handed.
I used a crowbar on mine to remove the drive belt myself and never caused anything similar.

I wouldn't worry about it at all though if it's just the edge of where the belt is, looks just like the very outer edge.

LR would probably want £100 for a new one. Rolling Eyes

It's running on the back of the belt and doesn't seem to be causing any issues. I'm just not particularly happy with knowing there's something not right! Engine has never been out that I'm aware of.

So are you saying the heat shield isn't needed? It seems to be trying to make a bid for freedom Laughing
And what about the bit of scrunched up foil that goes under it?

Thumbs Up

My Puma has been miising the crankshaft position sensor heatshield for at least the last 150,000 miles, so I don't think you need worry too much.

Looks like the sort of dent I'd inflict when going for something with the size 1 adjuster and missing to be honest. I wouldn't be worrying.
