TD5: Starting problems and valve lash adjusters
Hi I have recently changed cylinder head on my TD5, I bought one of those Spanish replacements and have experienced starting problems since then. The engine will eventually start, but give no response to the gas pedal until 2-3 minutes have passed. Then the rpm will rise to normal and the engine will work fine. Should I stop the engine then, the same procedure will be needed again. I have used a Nanocom to try to find out what the problem might be without success. I get an error message: Driver Command 5.1 and 5.5. This led me to belive that there was a problem with the poteniometer at the gas pedal so I bought a new one without success. Due to heavy corrosion an the fuel filter bracket I have changed it with all interior parts. I have changed the copper gaskets and o-rings on the injector (several times) with new ones. The fuel pressure is perfect. The only thing that is bothering me a little at the moment is that I forgot to store the lash adjusters in an upright position while I was working on the cylinder head.

Does anyone of you know if that may have released my problems? If so, is there a way to come around this or do I have to buy new lash adjusters?

Any advice will be warmly welcomed, I am beginning to run out of (expensive) ideas... a

Try live data in Nanocom - there are values from gas pedal and in Rave there is description, how the gas pedal should work. Check for corrosion on connectors between gas pedal and engine ECU. And check live data with Nanocom for any "non standard" values. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

A year ago the complete wire harness was changed due to oil. Can not see any oil there now.

The Nanocom I used was unlocked for Disco not Defender, so I was not able to read any values, only error codes and I am not even sure if I there were other that I couldn't obtain Sad

If it starts after three minutes of cranking and then runs fine it could be that the fuel system is drawing in secondary air. Then when you try to start it, the system has to prime.
Try the fuel system auto prime (turn on ignition then quickly press the throttle to the floor five times)
You will hear the fuel pump cycling on and off for a few minutes.
After it finishes, turn the ignition to "start" see if the engine will start immediately.
If it does, your problem is almost certainly air getting into the fuel system.
