low bite point after clutch replace
Hi all,
so I recently replaced the clutch on my MY13 defender at 50k kms at the dealer. in fact I just got the car back this arvo.

The clutch rattle is gone and there is much much less backlash on my drive train.
However the clutch bite point become quite low- so low that I feels like I am driving a car.
my defender had a very high bite point since new. its so high that I can not change gear without lifting my feet off the ground!
but now I just raise my toe and the cluth bites, truck moves- its around 8 cm from the floor.
does anybody have a similar experience?

Also I notice a difference with the gearbox ? The gears seem much stiffer and less notchy since the clutch and flywheel replacement.

It may be worth going back to the dealer and driving another car to see if its same or different?

Gears should not be stiff. It also may be that the clutch is not bled correctly and that is giving you the low bit point. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

thanks.

so I have done around 1000kms today.
the new clutch is fantastic. and it wasn;t placebo effect, the gear change is a lot better. I even asked my friends to test it to confirm my feelings.

before the clutch replacement, not all gears are equal. 1st and 2nd are a pain in the butt but now all six gears are equally notchy in a nice way.

I guess my truck was not 100% from factory and something was wrong with the gearbox...
and now with a new clutch, its fixed.

I had my clutch replaced at 55,000 miles a month ago,my experience is exactly the same as yours, low bite point and stiffer gear selection. Now about 600 miles later the gear selection is good, I've got used to the bite point and no death rattle so all is good!

Sounds like you need to adjust your rod at the master cylinder/pedal?
This will get your pedal back to how it was.

Simple enough job, and I would have expected this to have been done while the clutch was replaced??
If not take it back and get them to sort it! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

I've just got mine back from a clutch change at 48,000 miles and am also finding the bite point is low, when the clutch pedal is 'out' it is lower than the brake pedal - should they be level?

The clutch had developed a rattle, mostly whilst stood at junctions etc in neutral, then when the clutch pedal was pressed the rattle disappeared - I thought it might be release bearing related so I mentioned it when I took it in for service and the garage said it's a problem with the clutch springs. It's certainly nice and quiet now Very Happy

The loan car whilst the Defender was in the garage was an Evoque - took me a while to find the ruddy handbrake when I first got in it Rolling Eyes It drove well and you can see why they're so popular, but it was sooooo nice to get back in the Defender! Very Happy
