Eric the V8 90
So although Eric is for sale, i'm going to keep building him up. Either he will become the truck i want to keep, or somebody will bite my arm off.... Actually of course, he is the truck I want to keep...but for reasons of space...and a promise to the wife when i bought him, he needs to go really.

so Eric was bought at the end of 2014 from CSK. You will have seen the advert, and i duly purchased him. it turned out that many of the statements made about the car in the advert were not true.... but there you go.

Eric arrived with me.

over the course of a year and a half i built him up and have been driving him around. he was hardly used to be honest and life sort of got in the way.... but i have some more focus now, so hence the thread. V8 90...WIP

After sourcing and fitting panels, Sorting out the wiring, scraping the dirt off everything and trying to get past the dinatrol sprayed over the mud, we got the car running right (not to much effort, but a few minor issues not least of which were the plug leads on in the wrong order!)

After driving him for the first time, we realised the gearbox was completely goosed, so i sourced a recon LT85 and fitted that. There was some cursing.

The car was MOT'd and then basically sat about doing nothing whilst i sorted a number of annoying things like seat belts, seats, dashboard etc..

Then we fitted quite a few 'extras', roll hoop (direct to the chassis), Mach 5s, Swing away wheel carrier, winch bumper, with winch already fitted, light bar etc. and now he looks like this....the Paul Smart look Smile

Tonight i started thinking about the second battery. having taken the battery out and had a good look, i realised there was more mud to remove, so a hose pipe was called upon to flush out all the nooks and crannies...

You can see i have started cutting metal to make the supports for the battery tray that will take the two batteries lime this:

once the tray has dried out i will antirust, seam seal and paint it out before fitting the extra battery tray, fuse box, XEng split charger and relay box in the space - its going to be tight with the winch isolator, alarm gubbins and other stuff in there! V8 90...WIP

so tonight before the rain, i cleaned out the battery box after hosing it last night. I then got some seam sealer on it.

I then welded up the support for the two batteries... 3mm box is a bit overkill, but i have loads of it spare Smile

I left my wiring loom for so lonnnng, because it looks a nightmare. Turned out not so bad. Keep at it.

so over the weekend was a major dismantle. in order to get to all the wires, i ended up removing most of the dashboard....

I've removed most of the surplus wiring, though i still keep finding bits!

I've decided my spare TD5 dash top is in better nick than the existing one, so i am swapping it over.

I've cut holes in the lower dash panel for the Carling switches.... eight of them! and fitted the housings. i have sorted out the dash wiring to ensure i have feeds for everything, and I decided on an alarm location.

I started wiring the alarm in, but then realised Eric has no door switches, so i have ordered some OEM ones and am waiting on those to complete the alarm install. in the meantime, i fitted....some sensors.... to ensure the bonnet isn't lifted.

I also completed the battery box and just hand painted it out with rustoleum paint.... V8 90...WIP

So now the alarm install is complete (no pics of that obviously!). But I can tell you it's suitably immobilised and all the doors and bonnet have sensors as well as the interior ultrasonic sensors, so I will sleep better at nights! Also, I have removed the last of the duff wiring, remade looms for the hrw and rear wash wipe which were damaged.

Now I have started wiring the winch, and the auxiliary lighting to new Carling switches on the dashboard.

The offside wing is off, ready for me to mount the arb compressor above the accelerator pedal, and swap the wing for the one I have on another vehicle that has a hole for the snorkel.

Once again I am struck by the excellent condition of the bulkhead!
