Well, shes going realyl strong, very impressed so far, no hood leaks, in fact no leaks at all! drives well on std engine tune with those tyres evening getting 29/30mpg regularly!
Just fitted Gwyn Lewis Mud deflectors that i picked up at the last Big Outdoors event, real easy to fit and have to help stop the corrosion! Hi James, I've just found this thread from your for sale ad and wondered if you could give a bit more detail about cutting down the door, as I'd like to do the same to mine. For example, did you have to construct a frame behind the top edge or did your ali channel give it the strength it needed? Did you cut the skin down to the same length as the frame or leave it longer and fold it over? Do you have any 'work in progress pics', by any chance? Thanks in advance. i used a 2007 one piece door and just it just above the handle opening having first made sure i could get some Ali channel that would fit over the front and back of it. i cut front and back same height _ jigsaw. and made a ali chq plate back for it that came to the channel. i fitted the stronger later wheel support brace inside the frame. no other fabrication or strengthening was done.
you can buy them as half doors i see, but i didnt have the time to wait once i realised that! an earlier two piece door would need further work to make it strong enough. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Thanks James. I don't want to hang a wheel off it, so ultimate strength isn't a big consideration.
I have seen the kits but at over £300 they seem like a lot of money for not a lot of door! Still, I'll see how mine pans out when I'm ready to do it.
