Anyone else have a drone?
Hello

Following a lovely week in Wales I took my drone which I am still learning...

a Phantom DJI with a no pro (SJ4000 Camera)

Getting used to flying it, great bit of kit. Managed to take this from a video still.

What does the Phantom 4 have as upgrades? May need to pop out somewhere quite now the lighter nights (in between trailer renovating)

Am sure I do not have to say it on here but please play safely with them.

Like many things the minority can spoil it for the majority.

Have a read of this

Would hate to imagine the possible consequences if a drone had gone into a jet engine intake.

^ not at all

One of the reasons I've not used it much at all is I want to be away from people and a safe area to fly. I almost sold it as I thought the laws would get stronger as people are flying them over football matches / music gigs and busy towns / beaches.

I would not want mine hitting anyone, or anything... and other ones are much bigger / heavier.

Also with the DJI range of drones I was under the impression they have a ring fence type system (as they use GPS) which will not allow flight near airports? will look into this but I for one would not be flying anywhere near one.

Sensible all the way Thumbs Up

There is insurance you can get have any other drone 'pilots' got this?

When I was looking at buying a drone (not enough time I don't think) the only insurance I found was for commercial operators which seems a bit odd to me.

Join the BMFA, about £30/year. Insurance covers you up to several million, providing you fly to the rules set out by them and the CAA, which is easy enough.

Another beginner question: what would be a good, inexpensive, one to start with?

Would it be worth buying a 2nd one as other upgrade ?

Legal range limit is within visual line of sight, or 500m horizontal, 400ft vertical from pilot.

Actual range limit is determined by the technology and how much you want to spend... lots folk are flying hundreds of kilometres on relatively inexpensive hobbyist gear.

The mainstream stuff such as the quadcopters in this thread will fly for about 15-25mins up to a kilometre or so.
