If the news is to be believed and the aviation incident yesterday these drones are going to be on 'borrowed time' without correct licensing and control. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36069002
I would wait and see how this pans out, save your money or divert it to something else perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Much as I regret it, I do tend to think that private ownership of drones is likely to be regulated into extinction soon. Apart from the problems of morons (allegedly) flying them into air corridors, the first time a terrorist delivers a payload via drone, or intentionally uses one as a weapon, you'll see knee-jerk regulation like never before.
You only have to look at the appalling fiasco that has happened with deactivated weapons since the Paris attacks to see the calibre of legislation that our bungling European political masters can produce. Shoddy, irrational, unenforceable, and 'justified' through the propagation of lies and deceit by people who actually don't understand what they're talking about. Enjoy your drones while you can. |

Thanks for the info guys - lookslike I'll have to get one asap. I'll be able to check sheep / lambs without disturbing them - or rather them chasing after me thinking I'm bringing proven'
I'd best research wind limits etc next |

Im a pilot and in BALPA and i have to say they and the BBC are really gunning for Drones - although you need to be sensible and flying them at or near a plane is stupid - i think its a bit of a witch hunt, i dont share the same fears and feel they are going OTT as if they dont have anything else to focus on...i would much rather they invest time dealing with the C U next Tuesday people who shine lasers. I feel that the anti drone lobby (like the anti guns, anti 4x4s, anti anything they dont like) ruin it as much as the couple of idiots that shouldnt be allowed to breed let alone fly a drone. It certainly makes me not want to take mine out anywhere regardless of knowing how these things can go out of control...on a plus after demonstrating i can fly the weight, with my pilots licence, can fly them commercially now! Basically yes if you are a qualified pilot all you need to do is demonstrate you can handle the weight category of drone to an independent and competent person...saved the £4k drone course, but my £50K pilots licence sort of makes that seem cheap anyway! Surely it's no worse than a radio controlled aircraft or helicopter. Who in their right mind would fly anything near an airport? Anything is dangerous if it is not used with respect. Cheers Andy Never Knowingly Understood |

I think the issue is you have to have a certain amount of skill / knowledge to fly a radio controlled aircraft or helicopter to avoid wrecking it on your first time out and as such a certain knowledge of the flying risks. With todays quadcopters any numpty can fly one, you get them out of the box and you're away out of sight or up to 10,000 ft and onto youtube before you know it..... |

I think you are bang on the head of the nail with this comment. As with any activity, once you de-skill it, idiots will start to do it. It is much the same issue as is happening with driver aids in cars - the less skill that is required to drive a car, the lower the standard of driving. |

I'm used to radio control cars but my Drone is quite different,
I've only been practicing at low levels... getting used to landing / taking off and turning. The hardest part I find is when I've moved round a bit which way it the front Think I may buy a 'head lamp LED This is about as high as I've been.... Click image to enlarge |
