a perfect day - 4x4 in perfect harmony....
how wonderful!

I'm buzzing along the motorway thinking this is just perfect - wondering why the hell anyone would want to mess with the mechanics of the 2.4 puma.

not even the slightest mechanical protest - it's almost as if someone has sliced my ears off and filled the holes with expanding foam - just a nice wee buzz of induction noise.

I glanced down at the Ultraguage and I'm coasting along merrily in 6th at 1590rpm - beautiful !!

125 miles and the needle on the fuel gauge has barely moved - just below the top white line Mr. Green

if only everyday could be like this - hope your day is going equally well Thumbs Up

that's cheating.... but if you were to hear (or not as the case may be) the mechanical harmony I was experiencing today you'd not give a monkey about a broken fuel gauge nor many other minor issues for that matter as the 'big' stuff was working a treat. Very Happy

In a 2.4 you'll need to drop down to 5th before it starts chugging at 1500rpm! 2016 D4 HSE

"Driving along in perfect harmony"??!!....Lol!!....So were we recently, on a beautiful stretch of road, sitting on about 100kph, just under 2000rpm, in brilliant sunshine, about 200ks from home in Gracie, ...when the intermediate shaft failed!!
No longer was it "perfect harmony"!!

RRUK thats interesting as mine happily does 1500rpm on the level in 6th, clearly not as smoothly as my BM but it appears happy enough. Caterham also has an IRB remap that might help his DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Yesterday in 50mph road works and they traffic the slow land was down to about 45mph and slight incline and still sounded wonderful.

I think looking back one of the biggest issues I've had was related to the clutch master cylinder.

Most of the time now things are great and have been now for 100's of miles sinces replacement clutch ms, rear suspension replacement and tightening of rear suspension components.

RRUK 6th down to 40 mph easy... Not really tested beyond that.

As you'll have all expected there is still a little niggle but at the moment I have no idea what it is - seems like excessive play in some transmission shaft. On acceleration in med to hi gear you can feel a slight wobble somewhere. Not a clatter but a wobble, you also sometimes getting when pulling away ie engaging the clutch?

But this is only minor compared the first 5 1/2 years of ownership trying iron out the issues.

For now Thumbs Up Cool Very Happy Mr. Green and Bow down

Ps. Thanks very much to a very patient IRB And sorry to those who've been trying to get in touch. I'm the one who disconnected the ringer on his phone and knackered the settings on his email incoming server Twisted Evil

Not still thinking about a different gearbox then?

What about that earth cable that was rubbing, oh and the funny bolt that wasn't quite sitting right and the 1001 other little things that were the cause of such angst and concern? Steve.

Not still thinking about a different gearbox then?

Possibly as I think the wobble is from the gearbox area. to be honest I actually think the extension to gearbox shaft is isolating?

regards the cable I've not checked since having the engine, transmission mounts and rear suspension sorted - don't feel like I need to bother looking either. not only was rear suspension bushes etc replaced but turned out the A-frame ball joint was rather loose too.

Thumbs Up .....

I'm now happyprat and not skitsofreaky panoid anymore Mr. Green
