Stainless Exhaust
The tailpipe on my 110 200tdi has finally given up, it lasted 24 years so i'm quite impressed really! The rest of the exhaust is OK ish. I've got a double s stainless tailpipe from a V8 in the garage so thought it might be time to get a new stainless one made... A local tyre fitters quoted £195 fitted to make a new front pipe, centre section, mate it to my tailpipe all in stainless and fit it. Does that sound reasonable? I'd happily fit it myself but off the shelf exhausts are not cheap. OR I could chuck a £30 steel tailpipe and live with that.
Any thoughts/experience on the matter?

I had the same issue with my 200 TDI 90, and the mild steel replacements whilst cheap don't last 5 minutes. I stuck a janspeed stainless on it that I had off eBay and it's fab. Far better quality than the double SS that's on my Td5 110.

Might be worth having a look at this site if not too far from you - just off the M4 junction 18 https://www.infinity-exhausts.co.uk/

Have a word with Martin. One wife - livid

I have heard great things about the janspeed exhausts, but at nearly £400 I can't afford one at present Crying or Very sad.
I'll give Martin a ring on Tuesday and see what he can do, he's not local but i can always pop down to collect.

You say off the shelf is expensive. I bought a replacement front section and straight through centre from dingocroft for £130 all in.

Alive may do something to suit, not sure if they do or not but might be worth a look. Not likely to be cheap but will last a lifetime no doubt and be too quality.
May be worth a look. Thumbs Up

Keith,
Not sure who are the best but would avoid the SS (Double S) brand.
I unfortunately fell for their hype buying one for my S1 and have had nothing but trouble with it.
The owner has been especially obtuse when I have tried at various stages to replace corroded parts of the system to the point that I have now reverted back to mild steel.

Decision made . Went for Rimmer Bros standard bore . Yes it's a double S and yes the flanges are mild steel but I shall look after it and should get a few years of shinny . Big bore too noisy.
Cheers

As per op £195 for a custom make and fit sounds pretty good value to me

Sure is, Obtuse sums up all these in one word.
