Urgeant help with PAS whine before i make fire

Ok im at the very end of my tether now. In my steering system i have a constant whine. Its magnified with some RPMs and it quietens down if i apply some turning force to the steering wheel.

Ive changed the pas pump twice. One used one recon original unit.
No avail.

I have changed steering box also. No avail.

The whine is coming from the pipe work which is where i hear it the most not the pump. Although i can hear it in the steering box..

My question is mainly now, ive noticed there is 2 different steering pipes available to buy. One with one end a rubber hose the rest steel pipe. The other is rubber at both ends and steel in the middle.. is this my problem i have the singulor rubber ended version 300tdi. (Pump to box pipe)

Im literally crying inside lol

Hello, lots of different options on pipes. Depends on model and engine. But try getting the front wheels off the ground and turning steering wheel full lock to full lock a few times. It worked for me. Good luck.

Are you absolutely sure the sound is coming from the steering system? Have you tried starting the engine with the drive belt removed? While the belt is off give the other ancillaries a spin by hand as it could be something else that is making the noise, are the water pump and alternator turning smoothly?

yours a 300tdi?

there was a recal on them to change a pipe which resonated causing noise issues (97 era that was) Cheers
