Not aware other countries abandoning it,but nearly all other countries were exempt for a good few years after the uk imposed it.
FWIW,it's an "attendance only" course,so you only have to attend, not answer any questions to pass,Which kinda makes a mockery of it all.TBH,I enjoy it,coz the company pay and i get to do nowt for a week (spread over 5 years) .Shud also add,in the uk not carrying your cpc card is an offence, these days all offences are arrestable offences. We tie it in with stuff that's useful for our driver to have, so first aid, forklift, telehandler...

We were just discussing this today, and, after the initial CPC, the continuing need for our drivers to have the additional modules in place before 2019.
So is there a possibility of this being withdrawn then? |

Like most of these things, My Crane op cert just ran out so god forbid I use one now at work, Good thing too as I instantly forgot the last 5 years experience the day after it expired.
On the upside some training center will get to make some cash 'Qualifying me' for another 5 years. 3 Landrovers |

It will probably be replaced by a newer more complicated version....just in time to coincide with the newer more complicated Defender. Nothing in this life seems to get simpler. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

My company put me through the CPC as I occasionally drive the HIAB trucks for them, however we are technically exempt from the CPC anyway. I actually found it useful as I didn't go in with the attitude that I already knew everything so I actually learned some things. I have done them in the past with blokes who will not pay attention because they think they know it, they came down to earth with a bump once they realised just how out of touch they were, some didn't even know current drivers hours regs for example, which do seem to change every ten minutes...the courses are intended to keep drivers up to date on new laws and rules, most of which if you break them will see you arrested and fined or worse. For example, they are now fining drivers for having their ratchet straps loose and flapping in the wind, £100 per foot of loose strap apparently...! 2011 110 USW

I was talking to one truck driver who had attended one of these courses. He said that during the teabreak they got into conversation with the "young" man who was presenting the course. During the conversation it came out the the person who was giving the lecture to the room full of truck drivers had NEVER driven a lorry. This to my mind is wrong. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
