When I went to one recently the latest seems to be to give you a round figure with no breakdown of hours of labour and parts etc.

No cost breakdown or any price at all, just a copy of the online service history print out.
Is that legal to not give an official receipt with the price on etc? I paid over the phone and didn't get even a debit card receipt... Totally feel done! |

You should have received a breakdown of costs, labour, parts plus VAT. Any VAT receipt should show the VAT number and a breakdown of VAT.
I'd give them a call, tell them you'd like to know why it was SOOOO expensive, ask for a full breakdown with a receipt. They have to send you a copy by law. They might admit there was some kind of a mistake??!!! |

I thought it seemed a bit amiss to just provide a service print out

Hello
What should a first service involve? That sounds an awful lot of money for what could essentially be an oil change and a prod around. I'm surprised but were you not advised on the price when you booked it in? |

What mileage has it done?
In my opinion a first service should purely just be an oil & filter change. Fortunately i don't have this issue as i service mine myself, but i change every filter and oil when i service mine. |

That is a normal Main Dealer first service price.
Although I have had to pay and feel a bit done over on times, They have also spotted a few things that they have then fixed under the warranty that I would of missed. Once again I feel it's the lesser of two evils until the warranty has expired. |

We got a full itemised breakdown of labour (2.2 hours), parts (drain plug, filter, screenwash, oil) from our dealer (Listers of Droitwich) plus a copy of the online service history. Not a lot cheaper, mind, but it was (a) what we were quoted and (b) more or less what we expected. Loan car, "free" wash and vacuum, helpful and pleasant reception, excellent coffee and a tin of sweets help lessen the pain.
You really ought to be getting the same That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent! 2014 90 XS SW 1997 Discovery 300TdiS (retired to stud) 1966 Series IIA 88" (now my son's) 2001 Astra - I need something to go and buy the parts when the others are off the road! |

I wasn't quoted any price prior, but I should have checked first. It was booked in for 11:30 and he rang me at 12:40 ish to say it was sorted and would be dropped off at 2pm. Unfortunately I drop mine off the night before when the dealership is closed and it gets dropped back at my place. I never go in, they leave the paperwork A4 piece of service history, on my passenger seat. Payment is taken over the phone.
It was its first service |

You have to get quotes from a few dealers then play them against each other, its amazing how the price of a service can rapidly come down.
first quote £460 after discussion £270 independent £180 By the way the independent I now use does by far the better job, well done JAS land Rovers near York. |

Our LR dealer charges 120 an hour last time I asked.
The Evoque is due servicing now(4th) and they quoted 430 so I phoned the next closest main dealer to bargain, told them what I was quoted and asked if they wanted my future business if so how much...Quoted me 540 !!!! thing is if you take the 3 year service plan ive been offered for the 4th 5th and 6th service it comes down to about 330 per service so they do in fact have a fair deal of price flex if they feel so inclined. 3 Landrovers |
