More silent coat applied yesterday! This time to 2nd row footwell. This is resonates pretty bad so in some places I added 3 layers!!!

I've just bought a bulk pack of Silent Coat (yet to fit) to try and reduce the noisy ride. From what you've said seems that the Silent Coat is better at reducing the "tinny" sounds and rattles/reverberations rather than actually reducing noise levels?

Have you got any tips/tricks you found useful when you installed it? I have a decent roller and will do it in a warm(ish) garage because I've heard the cold can be an issue for the glue when setting?

Hi g-mack, do you think your combination has greater sound absorption properties than the Silent coat + closed cell foam approach or did you prefer it for other reasons ie weight and pliability?

its really simple to do, I've always tried to apply it on warmer days, but this last section it was fairly nippy out! i just lay all the bits over the house radiators to get them soft and sticky! Thumbs Up My 109 thread

i did lots of research before starting and closed cell is great for insulating, but a poor sound blocker/ absorber. the thinsulate on the roof is a proven insulator (gloves jackets etc) and a really good absorber of sound.

next stage for me is laying and sealing dodo barrier on floor. this is a blocker Thumbs Up

i sourced a lot of info from the website sounddeadningshowdown

so quick recap of what I'm doing
1 cover everything in silent coat
2 roof and behind spare panels stuffed with thinsulate

I've got it laid out roughly on floor sections, its nice and heavy! need to cut it all up properly and tape it all down but I've got other on going projects that need finished first. (home built storage etc etc ) My 109 thread

Hi new on this forum I have a 100 200tdi hardtop. Great thread. I have been looking into soundproofing and sniffing around twisted landlines etc for info. Anyone driven one? Are they quite? They appear to just chuck loads of dynamite at it, surely there is more to it than that?

So far I have roof flashed the cabin and seat box, then fitted a sound proofing kit I bought years a go from SRS? In the rear I have roof flashed the sides, and then celotex followed by plywood, the roof has been lined with wickes foil bubble wrap and a full roof lining. The floor in the rear is ply lined

Took her out for a long drive Saturday as she has not been in the road for several years. The overall noise is down, but still very wearing. After getting out you feel quite spaced out from the noise. The Noise is not so much from the engine but just general road/ wind drone.

The main noise seems from the bulkhead, so I think that needs covering with some insulation, I also have an engine blanket to put back on. And also a gearbox one. New door seals are going in along with vent seals, as these are shot. In the back I'm going to take the ply floor up, roof flash, closed cell foam and then reinstate the ply. And rubber line over the top to smarten it up. I'm going to carpet the sides in time. I have also bought a load of rubber grommets to fill any holes in the body work.

Is there any kind of rubber spray that can be put under the wheel arches? This would help reduce road noise from outside.
