i have run BFG MTs 255.85R16 for the last 12 years or so i guess. KM and KM2s.
they worked well on Wolf rims on a 110 but the inner arches just caught on the rear on full articulation (std height/suspension) also worked well on boost alloys and currently running a set on Mach 5s. for mud/wet fields i wouldn't use anything else on a vehicle that spends most of its time off tarmac. for a vehicle that spends the majority of its time on road i would use BFG ATs. i have a set of 265.75 AT KOs on a alloys (freestyle) on a 90 and a set of 235/85 on Boosts on a 110. Both are superb on tarmac, quiet, wear well and far better road manners than the MTs (both KM and KM2) as you would expect. For gravel tracks, rocks the ATs are bloody good, surprisingly so and i highly rate them in grassy fields too but not to same level at the MTs. i have just ordered a set of 285.75s for the Soft top project in BFG AT KO2 format. up until a year ago i have only used BFGs on my landrovers. last year i had a set of GG ATs, 275.55R20s - now they are a good tyre too, not tried them on a defender but very impressed with them on wet grass/tracks. Like I said, my main problem with the Wolf rims is if I want to mount 285/75r16 in the future due to 255/85r16 scarcity. In the US they seem to mount 285/75r16 on 6.5J rims all the time, but who knows. On the tyre clearance department, my current 235/85r16 nearly touch the arches in full articulation, so the bigger tyres will rub for sure. To address this I'll move down the travel 50mm with droppers and longer bumpstops and lift the suspension 38mm*. Probably will go with spring spacer blocks, as longer spring travel would be wasted with the long bumpstops. What do you think? * Why 38mm? I currently have 12mm Discovery rubber spacers which I'll remove since they were only effective in the first week or so. +50-12=38mm |

Was looking at the Aborderlessworld expedition 110 the other day, and the guys say they were using 255/85R16 KM2s, but don't they look way more massive?

The tyres in those pics are 37 inch KM2s not 255/85/16.
On their website it shows their truck with the 255s on initially but the photos further down show them cutting the wheel arches to fit the 37's in. |

Well, I can't really decide between the KM2s and the Toyos, so I'll just pick the ones that have the better discount at the time I change tyres.
Now I just need to decide if I keep my 16x7j modular or switch for the Wolf ones. Any opinions on this? Modulars: - wider track (24mm total) - better width for a possible future 285/75R16 change - already have them, should save around €200,00 Wolfs - stronger? - have the original LR look I like - should have better rust resistance |

personally i would stay away from modulars they are just not strong enough in my experience and deteriorate quickly Cheers

recommended size for 255 is 8 inch rim

6.5" - 8" for 255/85/R16 according to BFG website, so Wolf rims are fine.
