I wanted to be able to use standard fittings for my T-Max compressor that I'm wiring in to my Defender, and the ones we use on the farm are all PCLs so I defaulted to them. Yes, I did have to change the fittings because by default they're all on backwards on the T-Max and I'm plumbing in a pressure switch and very small tank.
Only the PCLs have got a much smaller hole through them than the ones I'm taking off, and they've got a much smaller hole though them than the cheapo Aldi bits and bobs I've got (I thought I'd try their regulator). Part of me is saying that it's going to be a low enough flow compressor that a slightly restrictive coupler isn't going to make any difference. Part of me is saying that because it's a relatively low output compressor I should be giving it the best chance I can and restrictive couplers are just going to make a bad job worse. Part of me is just saying "oh shut up and get on with it". I know that the fittings I'm using are fine on a decently sized windy gun, and I know that at full chat our 7.5hp compressor can't keep up with a few of them in the pipework and an open end, so they can't be *that* bad. But why does the little compressor use such big fittings and why are they all on backwards? |

Brendan is spot on - go to your local compressed air specialist as most of them have fittings in stock and can easily kit you out with fittings and flex hose etc.
You will be amazed how much air under pressure can pass through a small orifice, for example a 1/4" diameter hole will pass 104 cfm of air at 100psig. Your little 7.5hp compressor would have no chance of keeping up with an open ended 1/4" coupling. Local compressed air house is your best bet for a speedy solution. Thanks guys. I've already got heaps of fittings in stock anyway so that's not an issue I do wonder why they use such giant fittings on the little T-Max compressor though. |

Not to buck the advice above
i have a T max compressor running the on board air in my 110 with warn air tank etc. i fitted PCL female coupling to take air tools, tyre inflater etc it running 6mm ED pipe so much smaller than wksp bore - works ok for everything i have needed to do i wouldnt worry it will work fine, dont even spend more for such a little gain.
