if it was the turbo would it not always be there?
so too much fuel coming in but only when sat idling/not under boost? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

I thought the turbo only operated after a certain rpm? I have had the injectors replaced it was far worse before I had them done. Any thoughts on this idea from the transit forum that the turbo seals are faulty causing the oil in the intercooler etc

I'm watching this mine is doing the same thing after cleaning the injectors and new fuel pump.
Mine is just like yours doing all the same stuff. Good luck i hope you get it fixed, so mine will be fixed. I'm going to do a BAS remap and reset the Fuel pump volume control valve (VCV) programming and the Engine pilot correction learning procedure. I'm going to do this in about 2 weeks when I get home. Good luck |

if the engine is running turbo is turning although not doing much at engine speeds to enhance the amount of air in the chamber
if its overfuelling at low rpm you would be wasting fuel and hence white smoke until the turbo is coming into boost and using that extra fuel if its oil your oil level would be dropping over time which its not. from the description it sounds like a lot of oil being burnt over what time period/mileage has this been happening? It has happened over the last 3 months no more than 2 thousand miles. It was really bad at first but then I had the injectors replaced. Its confusing that it happens only for the first half a mile or so then will run fine all day.

Does'nt the tdci like the td5 have some programming to deal with unburnt fuel left in the system from a previous trip. Maybe this has gone awry and it's a problem with the ECU programming. Just a thought to add to the many others given here. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

injectors still leaking into the cylinder which is why is diesel not oil, nothing in coolant, and why its goes after initial startup but comes back after being left for a longer period - ie over night. Cheers

I have had all 4 injectors sent away and inspected. 1 was faulty. Iv replaced them with all new copper seals ect. Would the diesel burn off after 5 minutes of idle? This smoke is happening after idle whilst actually driving off.

White smoke is raw diesel coming through. Injectors checked OK, so there are a couple of other things to check...
COMPRESSION: if low will white smoke until it warms up. Most likely reason is gummy rings. A high quality flushing compound, or multiple quick oil changes might do it. INJECTION TIMING OUT: Worn keyway on timing gear was common on older technology diesels. CRD computers decide the timing based on crankshaft position and other inputs. Could crankshaft position sensor have moved slightly? Gummy rings is the more likely. Good luck Mogboy |
