TD5 won't start.
TD5 Non Starter.
Help needed. Defender 110 on a 51 plate. Manual, no air con, immobiliser or central locking. Will not start. Have replaced injector loom and flywheel pick-up sensor. Have had ECU and main engine loom tested, both okay Fuses relays and earthing points checked and working. Why won't it start. pulling what's left of my hair out. Any ideas?

Won't do anything?
Turns over but not firing?
Definitely got no immobiliser?
Was it running before injector loom and sensor replacement?
Battery got charge?
Power getting to starter motor?
Starter motor solenoid in good condition?

Few things to start with!

Starter motor etc.. tip top.
Battery 6 month old.
Replaced injector loom & sensor after it stopped running.
Not 100% sure on the immobiliser. No battery in key. How can I find out?
Turns over easily, but no smoke. ie injectors not opening.
Have tested engine with NANOCOM. ECU status robust.
4 live feeds into black plug and good circuit feed from red plug to all 7 contacts at injector loom.
Can test injectors and hear them click open during test.

How long have you tried turning it over for? Could be a fueling issue?

Try initiating a priming sequence (key to POS 2, rapidly press gas pedal 5+ times)

You should hear noises from the pump in the tank! Also check security of all hoses on the fpr.

use the nanocom to check under the Td5 engine and query the status of the ECU if it's immobilised.

This can be the one thing that stops it from starting. it will crank and feel like it's going to start, but it will not. It can happen when the system receives a short or the ECU was powered up without the 10AS or the other way round. You will need to make the ECU learn the 10AS again.

The other thing is check the fuel pump if it's even running, if not check the relay for it. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.

Fuel lines fully bled and fuel pump functioning.
Reading from the Nanocom the ECU status is Not Immobilised.
You will need to explain the 10AS to me, and its relationship to the ECU

Ooh, just thought, rollover switch? Back of the engine bay, near the middle. Will disable fuel if car is upside down, or if the switch is unplugged. Could be worth checking for continuity or linking it out.

What do you mean by relationship between ECU and 10AS? It's the alarm/immobiliser unit. It can be the decider as to whether the engine runs or not! Sounds like not in your case based on what you've said though.

Have you checked relay R8 underneath the centre fuse box? It might need a technical 'wiggle.'
Also check fuse F12 (10A) in the centre fuse box and fuse FL5 (60A) under the drivers seat.

Yip, done the roll over switch and all the relays + fuses.
Even tried rain dance in welly boots. OOOHH! Censored it
Will dig out the header joints this weekend and check them out.

I can understand why you are frustrated. Sorry I can't be more help.

Maybe you need Lara Croft sitting in the drivers seat?

Not helpful I know, but a nice thought.

Is there any remote chance there's an aftermarket immobiliser fitted that's been disturbed? Any spurious wiring in the engine bay or under the seat?

I'll check that out as well this weekend. The previous owner fitted a phone cradle with a constant live feed, but removed the unit when I bought the landy. Took me ages to find it, cos the battery kept going flat. Banging Head

Do you have a good fuel flow both sides of the fpr or any way to check the pressure? It wasn't me!

I have fuel flow both sides of FPR, but don't know the pressure. It should run about 4 bar on the high pressure inlet. Will need to get a pressure tester to check.
