Help on changing out bulbs in center dashboard
I have a few burnt out bulbs on my center dash and I want to replace them. Any advice or suggestions on good places to get replacement bulbs and any tip/tricks on changing them out. I always respect the thoughts of those that have gone before me.

Thanks,
Rob

I replaced mine some time ago. It's a rather simple job:

Remove center console (I used a flat screw driver but something like this might work better if you want to avoid scratches).

After you "pop" the center console you have to disconnect the switches. I removed the switches from the front panel and reconnected them one-by-one to their respective plugs so I know what goes where.

Looks something like this:

Replace lights, reassemble.

I used LR spare lights from my local dealer.

Since some lights died on me over the last two years I'm planning to replace them all with LEDs.[/list]

rtg, great info thanks. I think I will go LED from the start them. Great tip on the switches to keep things in their proper place. I will use that.

The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to disconnect the clock. I managed it with the centre dash still connected to the clock. Any instructions on how to disconnect the clock.
P.S. You will need the correcty keys to remove the stereo. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My clock came out pretty easily on Friday!
There's a plug that just disconnects. Might have to prod it with a small screwdriver but I didn't spend much effort so I can't really remember.

Yep it's just a "plug-and-play" plug like all the others... screwdriver and it pops right out!

I fitted LEDs and they were useless! I took them out again.

The incandescent bulbs provide a very broad spread of light and the overall effect is a uniform glow. The LEDs are very pinpoint and the result was a few vety bright spots on a generally dim background.

It may be possible to get more suitable LEDs now, though.

Yep, I studied that in depth before tackling mine last weekend. Also contributed as to how my labours went. A very good post for the novice. Thumbs Up 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
