Hi,
I have a fuel leak form the rear of the engine. I thought it wa the regulator. Changed this with a genuine one. It still leaks. Cannot see where from. Drips after a drive. Cannot see any pipes leaking etc. Can this leak for the cylinder head? Or could it some how be getting over pressured? The Injectors have been replaced, (for another reason), but this did not change the leak. Appreciate some help on diagnosing. Thanks, Chilly Chilly |

Did you use a genuine gasket also and was it the correct gasket for the improved FPR, it should be MSX000010. The improved FPR's has the same casting for both the 10 and 15p engines, the extra union is just not drilled and tapped in the 10p and so the later gasket must also be used.
The small O ring must also be changed. I am happy to be wrong but I am certain the correct torque for the 3 bolts is 25 nm or 18 lbs ft, make sure you torque tighten them gradually so that the gasket gets crushed equally. Other than that, check o ring in the feed and return pipes. Matt |

The o ring part number is err6761, be sure to replace this too and clean the little gauze filter out behind this too whilst you are in there.
Check to make sure the mating face is flat and there are no obvious signs or cracks or porosity etc. Matt |

Got exactly the same problem. Changed the FPR and still leaks. Is it possible that the whole FPR mounting unit is faulty? 1999 Td5 110 CSW 1961 Series 2 88 LPG |

Hmm this is topical. Changed mine last weekend, and I'm not sure if its stopped the leak - I'm on a pebble drive so its not that easy to tell.
How on earth are you supposed to torque up the bottom nut? I could only get one of those nasty bendy bars on it, and torqued by hand. |

Drop the starter motor out, it only takes 10 minutes an gives you complete access. It wasn't me!

Worth having a read of my recent thread on this issue. I had the same issue with a leak and it turned out to be a faulty genuine FPR casting, it hadn't been fly cut correctly and the casting was porous when I carried out an NDE on the material.
Worth looking at yours in detail as there could be a bad batch in circulation? Matt |

I didn't replace the casting, just popped the lot off and swapped over the little regulator thingy. I replaced the gasket but it could be I haven't torqued it up fully. Will have a check at the weekend. 1999 Td5 110 CSW

I'm afraid that is most likely your problem then. I know it is a lot of money but the only way to go is to replace the whole lot with a genuine LR FPR.
Replacing the regulator and Viton seals never seem to work from what I have read. I haven't even bothered trying to just replace the reg itself as I hadn't heard of anyone that had success doing it. Coincidentally, I happened to find the reg from a VAG 20VT engine is the same rating and fitting plus it has a leak off tube fitted so when it does fail it can be directed into a catch can etc, maybe this is something worth experimenting with? FPR fuel leak woes continue...
Having replaced the regulator gizmo and gaskets last time, I bit the bullet and bought a complete FPR including housing and fitted it yesterday. Apart from chucking diesel all over the workshop yesterday as I didn't check the pipes were fitted properly, I thought I had it fixed. Had my MOT done today and it failed on....a bloody "fuel leak from the back of the engine." I did argue the toss but the guy showed me the little puddle on his MOT bay floor. Rung up my local independent garage to book it in because I'm at a loss as to where the fuel is coming from. In the meantime any thoughts folks? 1999 Td5 110 CSW 1961 Series 2 88 LPG |

FWIW (and for rfkdemon) I changed my FPR and seal only over a year ago and have had no problems since. Used genuine parts. Sometimes it works?!!?!?!! 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)
