England 2004 Defender 90 Td5 HT Rutland Red
I always wanted a 2A the same age as me, so got one registered same month and year
It looked beautiful, enthusiast had restored it and she was perfect, however as a daily drive and as a homeworker, that's minimal miles, I just could not handle it. You have to remember its a 67 car or thereabouts and the technology to boot
Think about turning circle, speed and ease of use - I loved the car but the head over ruled the heart and I sold it for the TD5

The TD5 is still a Landy but for every day use, so much more practical

I would drive one before making the leap and if you buy from a dealer, beware the extra commission when you come to sell

I made money selling mine and it got rid of the itch but just make sure its what you want

Definitely join the Series 2 Club

Many members on here who would all say how helpful it is

Go for it, there is nothing like a Series 2/2A to make you smile whenever you get in

Thanks Luke Thumbs Up

That looks cool but with parts hard to come by I'd be worried I broke something Shocked

I have dabbled in green laning but it's getting harder to do it round here due to irresponsible owners carving up tracks when they're muddy. Locals are likely to call police if they see you now Sad

Did a bit in our FLs and D2s but the RRSs only ever went in farm fields with the caravan as the cost of them made me too scared to go green laning

I have been happy to drive everything from Defender to FFRR2 on LR experience days though apart from Evoque which has never interested me

This was my highlight just after I bought the D2 metropolis at LRO show 04 Very Happy

I had a phase considering a cheap Defender for greenlaning but never did it and now I'm more interested in a series so maybe I'm getting old Laughing Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I like the look of this Mr. Green

That doesn't look too expensive to me for an early vehicle. I'd want to know what it looked like before being straightened out and painted and how much of the original vehicle remains; the front panel and door tops are later items, but no big deal.

Ideally I would also look for an enthusiast owned/restored example. Some good ones do come up from time to time on the series2club site.

Don't be too put off by the lack of synchro between 1st and 2nd. You only need 1st when pulling away and mine will crawl along at idle in 2nd at walking pace. 2nd is a low gear and I've had to learn to slow right down to almost a standstill before dropping into 2nd. 3rd or 4th are fine for roundabouts. You're in 4th by 25mph and I typically don't exceed 45mph on 6.00 tyres without overdrive. This is more of a limitation than a slight pause when pulling away.

Thanks Miles Thumbs Up

I would prefer an enthusiast restoration to a dealer sale. I will look at the series2club now. I came here because I knew it was best place to find the people in the know Bow down

I've been on Martins sites for so long now I'm not sure what else is out there. Sadly his DS site hasn't been very busy and I've now had to join another for info. I'm now a mod on there though Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
