LED reverse and fog lights wiring colours
Fitting these today along with rest of LED package. I know the LEDs are polarity sensitive so just to make sure before I crimp up the connectors............the lamps have a red and a white wire and the loom a black and a grey to each light fitting.....so....the blacks are the earth right?
Info on the light unit rear says the white is the negative so is that the earth? ie I connect the white to the black for the correct polarity??
Also which is the flasher relay (2.2 TDCI). Also also..........can I turn on the ignition with fitted LEDs and original flasher unit without damaging anything, as I want to identify the correct relay by 'feel'?
Cheers

hi Chipmunk

Found the same on my TD5, black on the car was negative/earth, White on the light Negative.
found out the hard way once i had crimped the first one!!
All worked after swapping it.
the number plate one took the longest. Very Happy 110XS CSW TD5.

Someone on here once gave a very good tip to test the polarity of LED lamps. Connect it to a 9V battery, and you will easily find out which of the wires is the positive. I did this when installing my Wipac LED number plate lamp.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I'm not gonna lie I just put the ignition on and put the gear stick in reverse, touched the wires to the plug and which ever way they went to make the light come on is the way they were crimped. had no problems with them.

Steve I have installed and wired the LEDs, I won't damage them by switching on with old relay in situ?
Thanks
David

nope, no damage, they will just flash a little quicker and the trailer light will flash as well with just the indicators.

I've just fitted led's too. I changed the relay first of all (done by feel as suggested) and then put the new one in. Then after fitting each new unit, I put the 4 ways on to make sure each one worked OK and if has not affected the relay.

My only lasting problem is that I now have the trailer light on permanently...... Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Did you adjust the little knob on the relay? Turn that until the trailer light only flashes with the first indicator flash Thumbs Up

^^^^ Change it with the engine running too, not ignition as the voltage is higher and more accurate.

Thanks for replies guys.......all done and dusted.
As already said, the number plate light took the longest.
Also had the polarity on side repeaters reversed but was very quick fix. Superb lights.
