It's your battery back up sounder that is going off.
Read your handbook or google for the correct way to disconnect the battery without the alarm going off. |

Is the battery fully charged when you reconnect it?
Discovered this years ago with my Focus RS if you reconnect a less than fully charged battery the alarm goes off, fully charged battery it doesn't. Alarm system is detecting a voltage drop which makes it think the car is being tampered with. |

Could you not use a battery booster starting pack? Connect the terminal clips on the jump leads of the battery pack to the terminals on the battery leads before disconnecting them. Then when you remove the battery leads there is still power to the electrical system in the car. You could remove the battery, then fit a new one, reconnect the terminal leads and remove the battery booster clips from the battery terminals.
Any reason whu this should not work? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Taken from the Defender 2.4 TDCI workshop manual; Make sure no data is required from the ECM as battery cable disconnection will erase fault codes and idle / drive values held in the keep alive memory. Record audio unit keycode. To avoid alarm going off; 1. Loosen ground cable nut. 2. Turn ignition key to run position. 3. Turn ignition key to off position. Within 17 seconds of turning ignition to off, release battery ground cable from battery. Pretty much the same info is provided in the owners handbook for my 2.2 model, but says 15 seconds not 17. Hope that helps. |

Yes. You need a odb reader capable of coms with the AS10.
I have a Hawkeye pro (bit expensive) but I believe a standard hawkeye would do it. Most independent LR garages should be able to do it. |

I don't I'm afraid. There are a couple of things you need to turn off to make it stick. Hopefully Lorryman100 will be along shortly to advise....

Taken from Lucas AS-10 Alarm Guide:
Arm on lock: This setting configures the alarm to not set whenever the vehicle is locked using the plip or the key. Setting this to DISABLED effectively turns off all alarm protection although it does not affect the immobiliser. This can be disabled using the PLIP IMMOBILISE and KEY IMMOBILISE. Turning off all three literally turns the alarm ECU into a central locking controller only. Edit: I read about changing the county-code to JAPAN should do the same job. |
