Jaguar Land Rover could buy Silverstone
"The Financial Times is reporting that JLR has asked property consultants Cushman & Wakefield to value the circuit and its land. The FT claims that Silverstone would become JLR’s headquarters, with plans to develop a heritage centre, offices for up to 1000 staff and a hotel and visitor centre. The value of Silverstone is reported to be £22.7m."

Oh great - look how that worked out for the Nurburgring (although it wasn't bought by a big car manufacturer). New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

I doubt strongly it would become its HQ, if nothing else given the infrastructure, investement and stuff all around, but they are in need of space and track to test on, so i could see them buying it to use as a test and heritage centre Mike

Is this not the case. Cheers Simon

£22m seems a pretty good price.

The opportunities for a wealthy owner to develop the site are enormous, and I'm sure getting PP to develop the site to create jobs will be very easy.

The perception is that Silverstone has failed to invest to the general level of other race tracks around the world.

£22M to buy Silverstone looks attractive, but if you think that Bernie agreed to deffer the £17M F1 race fee for 2015 until 2016, this probably indicates that financially all is not good at the home of F1 in the UK.

If it's sold then £22M is just the start of the investment necessary to be a part of this F1 circuit club.

With such a dominance in the technical skills and R&D facilities to compete in Motor Sport based here in the UK
it would be great to see Silverstone re-positioned as a first rate facility.

So the first big meeting was yesterday, and this is an excellent piece explaining some of the issues they have to address:

and a scything piece here on the finances:

blaming "multibillionaire muppet king Bernie Ecclestone".

So the confidentiality clause has either been llifted or BRDC president Derek Warwick has let the cat out of the bag:

“We told the members to get a flavour of what they thought of the deal. The response was favourable so we will now set up an EGM for the members to vote and give the Board a mandate to proceed with the deal and continue with the negotiations with Jaguar Land Rover.”

Future of Grand Prix in jeopardy
Not plain sailing for JLR then:

"A group of race track members has distributed a letter, seen by the Telegraph, urging their counterparts to block the sale.

One said: “There is a strong groundswell building within the ranks of the British Racing Drivers Club [BRDC] against this deal.”

“The following are points that have been raised: the lack of information about the deal; the exclusivity afforded to JLR; other offers on the table that are not being considered.”

and some more here on the counter-offer:
