Below from Peter was posted October 2015......
Peter, Brendan, any progress/news on the LED third brake light? Surely worth the effort I think, even if Defender production is over, but convinced that there would be high demand for such a original looking LED third brake light. ^^ pj, admit that has been said before in this post (including myself), but OP question actually was about a replacement like for like of the original rear brake lamp unit as per below quote.
to which Nakatanenga answered this here then
So, many on here are not interested in a different looking LED version, but rather in a LED replacement like for like for the original unit, and back in October Nakatanenga said that they were working on that. Hence my question addressed to Peter or Brendan for an update on such unit, which no doubt would be met with great buying interest. Hope springs eternal. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Have spoken to Peter this morning about the replacement high level rear LED brake light.
Cutting a very long story extremely short, there has been delays involved in getting an E mark. dealing with beaurocrats can be a very slow long winded process. Without a valid E mark these lights will not be road legal so will not be offered for general sale until the correct full paperwork is in place. Brendan |

I have the VGS supplied and fitted replacement LED brake light on the inside of my panoramic privacy glass door.
I believe Dave said it was a Hella unit and about £50. 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

My truck didn't come with a 3rd brake light but I would like to fit one. An LED option would be the best as I'm in the process of converting my external lighting into LED to help reduce the electrical loads that sometimes kill other electric components.

I had an interesting fault that was caused by the high level brake light being LED.
When I would turn on the rear dismister the ABS and TC lights would come on and stay on until the ignition was cycled. I assume it was something to do with the rear demister and brake light sharing a ground path on the window. Replacing any of the three brake lights with a standard filament lamp fixed the problem. As brake lights are only on for very short periods of time (unless you don't understand how to operate a vehicle properly), it doesnt have any impact on electrical load, so I'm happy enough to run a filament lamp in the high level brake light. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/ |
