7 pin sockets are total rubbish though.
The potential to fail an MOT should not be a reason to avoid the 13 pin socket, which is electrically and mechanically vastly superior to the terrible 7 pins. ![]() ![]() |

I would far rather have tow electrics tested anyway. It seems mad to fit 7 pin electrics just so a fault in them would not be tested for at MOT time.
This is about safety and consideration towards others; I bet we've all seen trailers with faulty lighting. ![]() ![]() |

had the tower electrics fitted today with the socket fitted in the rear cross member, really pleased with that , also rear work lamp fitted to roof rack, shame the holes in the supplied bracket are in the wrong place so have currently spaced the bracket away from the roof rack , will have to extend the holes at some stage

I fitted this as my first ever modification (D90 64Plate) - 13Pin - so its pretty straightforward but quite fiddly behind the switches - I wired it into the rear heated window switch. If you get any questions as you are doing it, PM me as I can probably help.
First off, there is a socket behind drivers side rear lights - most of the wires go in here - dead easy Second, wires and relay into the battery box - one wire to the battery I think and one into the relay. Wire from the relay into the back of the switch - run on the outside of the gearbox Cheers Michael |

also i fitted the 13 pin socket but will never need some of it as i won't be towing a caravan so all plugged in on the o/s

Did you fit the socket in the cross memeber? It really bugs me that it isn't fitted in the hole.
Is the only method to drill the crossmember and fit rivnuts into the holes? |

Or drill the crossmember and screw in self tappers, or was that just me.

I guess you could, does it not have a tendency to come loose / pull out when you unplug the connector?

Never has nope, To be honest i'd be more worried about the ability to remove the screws now than of them coming loose

Whoever fitted the plug and play electrics in the factory in mine had been having a good laugh - it was tucked so far up under the wheel arch spray cover that I was convinced it wasn't there. Took ages to locate and could only just reach it!!

They have a trim clip that holds the plug in place, so they should all be in the same place.

I am fitting a new chassis and I have a question about the towbar wiring.
The 7 pin wiring which plugs into the loom is straightforward. However, the extra wire which comes from the battery box has a branch with a socket at the end. Where do I plug this in or do I just secure it safely out of the way? (Ignore this one, I worked it out.) |
