You're entirely correct, but then again the solution shown by Eric is, sorry to say, a poor one from reliability point of view.
This type of crimp terminal should be protected from the elements, like virtually all crimp terminals should be.
Now it is exposed making it just a matter of time before it will be corroded.

Luckily, Eric only drives his SVX on sunny days, so he should be fine for many years to come Laughing but I would not take this as a good example Embarassed

Actually, with some skill and practice one could solder-seal the tip of this crimped connector without the rest of the wire wicking up the solder.
But this is not really practical either and difficult to control during soldering.

The least thing to do is install a small protective cap over this bolt.
But I'm wondering, how hot does an aircon compressor get when it is working hard ? Peter,

Pierre Td4,
No reason for concern. First, you are right that I rarely will drive when it's raining, but then again I doubt that simple rain would splash up that high all the way to the center top of the engine, so not sure that there is much corrosion risk in that warm dry spot, second, that mass connector is in about the most visible and easily accessible place, so if corrosion would become apparent it would be easy to spot and replace, and third, but not least, wait until the SVX will be back from Uhldingen-Mühlhofen later this spring and all existing non standard factory electrics and cabling will have been replaced by German tailor made, and then a quality of its own. Whistle
Now, it has been snowing heavily here today, which tonight turned into good rain for the entire weekend, followed by dry weather as of Monday, so I have changed my dealer appointment for a minor job from Monday to Tuesday to make sure that there is not even remote risk for that earth connector to get wet. Laughing

And as to your....

What then? Temp doesn't make a difference for taking a good mass, no?

Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Landreiziger ..
Eventually got to install the Landreiziger loom last week - following all advice on this and other threads.

Only problem is that the headlights do not "seat" properly - if you press on them on any of the corners they have an amount of "give" ...

The earth wire initially was a bit short for the AC connection - tried it a few other places - but eventually had to extend it a bit - thank you Ericc.

Sadi, not sure if you want to do that, but my dealer instead of extending the earth wire which was part of the Landreiziger loom, simply replaced the entire wire by a longer and slightly thicker one. Will help giving a good earth, and an extension connection less. Thumbs Up

I have installed my Land Reiziger loom today on my TD4. Easier than I thought, thanks to info on this thread.

I had to extend the -ve cable by about 40cm to fix it on the AC compressor bolt. I have also connected the +ve directly to the alternator live feed, this easily without dismounting any hose!

There is enough room to put your hand on the left of the hose, than remove the plastic cap of the nut. Here below you can see the 13mm nut (arrow) of the alternator live feed

There is also enough room to use a 13mm socket wrench to remove/put back the nut (even room to put a pocket light... to not forget to remove after operation Laughing ). You do not easily see the nut but you can locate it with you fingers.

Et voilà Thumbs Up
