Personally I would have thought the contrary, but what do I know
 and actually I like the look of hardtops a lot which is why I am resisting putting them in mine, which would be a great fix for the damaged sides  Rob

I own a 90 HT, and I'm wanting to put Panoramic Glass on the sides
For no other reason than helping with visibility at awkward junctions (& they look cool) 
But the Pan Glass doesn't detract from the HT image IMO G My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years. |

Why not buy some used panels from a breaker with station wagon windows already fitted, then you can always put the original panels back in should you want to put it back to original? Edit: as per the above post, panoramic glass would be the best of both worlds especially since your vehicle is black. |

Cheers all, I'd like the extra visibility and to be able to give my dogs some fresh air in the back, my panels are fine and straight, I had to seal them at the bottoms with Silkaseal last winter and they are now totally sealed, so they'd be hard to remove unless I had to, Enid - I prefer the look of an O/E style of window plus the panoramics are more expensive, having said that the plastic trims are expensive for o/e style - but what does the inside of the panoramic ones look like when finished from the inside? Does it leave a rough cut edge as the glass is stuck to the h/t panel?

This may have been covered on here, but one thing to check is if the change you are proposing 'repositions' your vehicle in the eyes of the DVLA / (DVSA previously VOSA) and more importantly HMRC because it use too. My first Land Rover was a late Series III HT and I looked at this in 1991-2. If I had installed rear windows (easy enough) It would have triggered the payment of the original VAT claimed back by the first purchaser as a commercial vehicle, with the DVLA and HMRC viewing the vehicle in effect as now being a CSW and therefore wanting the VAT they missed out on. This may all be different now, but worth establishing before you get the angle grinder out...  SKIP

If this was the case. HMRC would be going back to the original owners of most series vehicles. How many hard to land rovers now have Windows fitted.
As long as you haven't claimed the vat yourself there is no problem. |

I prefer a hard top... Windows usually rattle, though the use of bits of rubber blocks between glass and frame usually solves that.
1978's idea is which route I'd be going for, especially as I know how attached you are to that 90 Lambley ! Panoramic glass? It's not for me, looks like an eyesore modern city architectural office in a beautiful rural picturesque village . 2 people I know who have them.... grossly regret it. |

I find the opinions in this thread very interesting
I have a silver HT and I'm considering the Landy Glass side panels (but not the rears) with all the pillars painted black to match. I'll need to play with Photoshop to give me the confidence to do it first of course but........think FullFat with its "floating roof" - I thought it may look rather nice as well as having practical advantages for me too. Personally I prefer the look of the HT so I prefer this route but it's all down to individual taste (SWMBO tells me I have none  )!! |

Cheers all, I prefer the look of the sliding o/e windows tbh, even though my 90 is black and the landyglass looks good with black in my view.
As for the HMRC - I'm not too bothered, there is VAT on it at the moment but I'm transferring it to myself in a few weeks so the VAT will be lost. I'm more worried if it would drop in value or put buyers off, not that I'm likely to part with it soon. Here's a 2 min retouch - not the best as it's difficult to get the shadows right but gives me an idea of what tints look like... I would always be bothered about HMRC if there is a payment due. Not sure what you mean by there is VAT on it as yes there would be on any purchase. If you are saying that it is in a company or other business and you have reclaimed the VAT then a "transfer" to you would be a supply of a VATable asset and the VAT registered party would need to account for the VAT due. In this instance VAT is not "lost" it's just that the final purchaser who is not VAT registered can't reclaim and the chain stops.
Add to this the fact that if VAT has been reclaimed on a commercial vehicle and rear windows are then added before the vehicle is disposed of, then VAT is due on the value at the time of conversion. Maybe you mean something completely different though in which case please ignore my rambling  |
