problem fitting roof rack
Hi

I have been assembling my new roof rack today and have it now sitting on the roof of the 110.

However when I fit the brackets which secure it to the gutter, the front four are catching the doors when they open.

I have been looking to see if I can find a local metalworker who could mill the brackets down slightly and will call a few tomorrow.

I was just wondering though if its easy to drop the doors by a couple of millimetres or so without it starting to leak (and no, it doesn't already!).

I had the same problem with my 110. Adjusting the height of the doors by dropping the hinges slights sorted it out without any leaks Thumbs Up 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful

Yeah, a doddle. Only loosen of the torx head bolts enough to enable moving the door up and down. I used a wide wooden spatula as a lever underneath the bottom of the door to assist in moving it up and down to get it right. Since you lowered the doors what are your shut lines like now? I had the same problem with my 90 with the drivers door. I dropped the door a tad but not too much but also ground a little off the bracket. In the end you only need a fag papers width after all. The passenger side wasn't a problem as it had 6mm clearance, that's build quality for you eh? Confused

Hi apt100, mine is a Front Runner rack, but I don't blame the rack itself, when you look at the difference in height from the two gutters and corresponding doors the blame sits squarely (or lopsidedly in this case) with how my 90 was put together. Funny thing is that the doors match up with the body contours fine.

Thanks for the reply.
You would still like to think that a rack being sold for a Defender would take into account the legendary build quality Laughing Although to be fair it probably isn't specifically designed for Def.

(I once bought an Halfords rack for a Vectra that rubbed the top of one of the doors. After a bit of whinging and sulking from the Manager I got a refund. I then shelled out on a genuine Vauxhall one that fitted much better with loads of clearance.)

As it turned out I only needed to lower the passenger side doors a tiny bit. The driver's side were fine.

The doors all shut fine. I had to alter the catch slightly on the rear passenger door, the front was ok.

The roof rack was from MM-4X4

It was the cheapest priced one I could find (at £444 + 56 for the ladder) It needed to be self assembled (I dont know if others do or not?) Its very solid once built and I have been up on top and it supports my weight ok.

Alls well in the end then. I had to assemble my frontrunner rack, it looked more like a bedframe when it was assembled, I hadn't thought about how big it would be.
Your rack looks very snug atop your 110.....enjoy Smile
