I haven't had an impact on the rear hitch yet.... but I am sure I will at some point. It is well made (strange for a LR genuine part) and I am sure it will take any bumps even though I am thinking of making a skid plate for it. Glyn |

Did you see the shackle and point I have on mine?
This one I thought long and hard about the rear and reasoned that if circumstances get a bit extreme I'd rather break that or bend the rear crossmember than bend the chassis. I towed a 15 tonne plus gritter with it before christmad with no problems. but having said that, your rear step combination is still pretty cool |

Yeah, I must admit that if I didn't have the use for a hitch I would have gone for the same as you. Fully swiveling so good for all angle pulls. Looks smart too Glyn |

speaking of angle pulls I just watched the top gear desert special thing, and saw what happened to may during one of their more dubious recoveries. amazing really.

Some photos of rear recovery points on our vehicles. No one system will be best for everyone has we all have different needs/uses for our vehicles.
Red 110 has two welded on recovery loops and a Southdown tank guard system Click image to enlarge The Southdown Recovery eye is fitted by pulling two pins out and exchanging it for the plough/towball The Southdown recovery eye looks like this. Nicked from their website On black 110 we have a 2" receiver fitted and can interchange drop plate for a recovery billet Click image to enlarge HTH Brendan Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

brendan, on your last pic, assuming the vehicle is a puma, how did you get the back plate on? did you drop the tank?

Mike are you referring to the plate with the six bolt heads showing ? If you are it picks up the existing six captive nuts in the crossmember. Bob |

The holes are threaded, Bob. Didn't know there were captive nuts on the back? No access to put the back plate on.

Mike
Maybe captive nuts was the wrong term The front plate bolts directly into the threaded part of the crossmember, there is no back plate to fit behind the crossmember. There are a couple more pick up points that are secured with nuts and bolts. Two side arms run along the chassis and are secured on the tie down eye bolts. Very easy to fit, took me about 30 minutes to install mine. Bob |

Interesting, can you point me in the right direction for more information? Mike, yes it is an 09 Puma. IIRC on Pumas it has six captive nuts, whereas on 300 TDi you get a plate with 6 nuts welded on. With the standard tank it is a straight forward fit. We have a 120 litre tank on so can not remember if we fitted it before or after the tank. It is too dark to crawl underneath now to see ease of fitment with the large tank on. If I remember will crawl under it in daylight and have a look Brendan |
