HI All,
Recently I went through deep flash flooding across a road & since then whenever it rains both the ABS & Traction Controls dash lights both stay on for the journey & some times longer. It apears that both ABS & traction control systems work fine.' Is there anything either under the bonnet or underneath some where else tnhat could causde this please? Cheers Mark |

Long shot but some crap could now be I between the abs ring and the sensor, might be worth a quick check also ensuring the gap is correct. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Hi Mash,
Thanks, but being a bit of a dummy with these things - where is the 'ABS Gap' & how big should it be? Thanks |

Ok so after a quick read up as I'm not posh enough for one of these shinny ones with abs
The sensors seem to be through the axle casing, I think you need to remove the calipers and disks in order to gain access, the air gap should be around 1/4". You can test the sensor without removing it with a fluke, it's a case of disconnect the cable (I think the connection is in the engine bay, trace it up from the axle it will be the only cable) setting the fluke to ac millivolts and with the wheel jacked up, ignition on. Spin the wheel and a voltage of 50-700mv. This is knowledge off other platforms but I am sure it is the same if not someone more knowledgeable than myself will be along soon, if you have any doubts in working on the braking system leave it to someone competent 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

OP - what vehicle model are you taking about - if you complete the profile bit, it may help people direct you to the right answer.

If you check all the wheel speed sensors for physical integrity as suggested then I'd move on to other parts of the system and check the harness plugs to see if they have any water in them or are not fully engaged and so letting water in.
Start with the Hydraulic Control Unit under the bonnet - it has two multiplugs to the rear and a third underneath. The ABS Module is located in the right hand seat box and has 3 multiplugs. Finally, if all this is OK then you need to get someone to plug a scan tool into your OBD and read any stored DTCs - there a shed load of them applicable to this system and it will help point you in the right direction. If all this means nothing to you and you fancy finding it all for yourself then the Workshop Manual can be download from here: https://onedrive.live.com/?id=4BC2D89C85C7...9C85C7C171 courtesy of dgardel |
