You have a Puma 2.4 like myself, right?. Sounds to me like a splitting turbo to intercooler hose. Happened to myself too, whistling noise under power, but ok to drive at moderate speed. I was able to make another 50km at the time before getting to my dealer to replace it.
Not expensive to replace by original, can also be replaced by better quality stainless pipes as I did last year (Entreq) which will give you peace of mind forever. As Ericvv said in the 2.4 version, the Turbo Hose is the most common failure that produce whistles (happens to me twice).
The other is a warped exhaust manifold. Cheers! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Hi. Many thanks for the replies. The turbo hose failure has happened to me also once sometime back. But this time I suppose very much different to earlier.
"Blowing metal pipe" whistle sound only heard for 1 second when you just attempt to accelerate suddenly on the road and then it goes away no matter how hard you accelerate. I have shut down the Egr inlet and outlet pipes sometime back and wonder whether this has something to do.? NB. My car is 2.4tdci RHD and I guess the noise comes from left side. |
