The off/side/head light switch usually fails before the main/dip/flash stalk.
If you had neither dip nor main before you changed the switch, it will be the little stalk nearer the instruments. If you had either dip or main but not the both, it'll be the longer stalk. I wouldn't mind betting that you've replaced the wrong switch |

Gaz, Yeah I've changed out the wee pink relay under the steering column.
Blackwolf, It was the off/side/head light switch i changed out (the wee short stalk). I had side lights before, I've made all the changes and still only have side lights. The prevailing theory now is the main control stalk?? IE indicator/flasher/full beam stalk? is that right?? i just want to be as clear as mud before spending more cash. Thanks everyone! |

Mine was the main indicator stalk. Could get the lights to work by pushing main beam on then off. Lights would work then.
You have to take the wheel off to change it. I had the same as you. Changed main short stalk, loom was done last year. Think they are about £70.00. I couldn't get the wheel off so mechanic did it in the end when the gearbox had to come out. 110XS CSW TD5. |

Had this problem last week, sidelights only, worked on the flash and full beam. Changed headlight stalk for new, no difference. Now mine is a 1990 90HT, no dim dip relay behind the binnacle. The fuse box in front of the gearstick, has about 5 relays on the bottom row. Think the 2nd one in from the right is the headlight one. Current travels from the stalk, to the relay, back to the stalk, then to the fuse. I bridged a wire direct from relay to fuse and hey presto, all good, there was a break in the wire along the loom. May not be to everyone's liking, but it beats pulling the dash apart and checking the loom for a break in it.
