Puma 2L2 2016 engine broken !? Bet are open
Hy Guys,
Last Friday I had a bad experience with my car (Defender Adventure Edition 2016, 2338Km 2 months old), suddenly after passing from 3 to 4st gear, the engine make a tac-tac-tac like a machine gun, real noise metal bumping to metal!

So I push the cluch (sorry no sure how to ell other way), and the engine stop in 1 sec !

The engine was running weird the past 30-40 km, when I have the engine a low RPM (700-750rpm) all the car was shaking (not before like if the low rpm was lower than usual), and usually when you pass from 1st to second, the RPM dosen't go down to fast, but during the past km it was dropping strait ahead to low RPM.

I didn't try more, I just call the tow car, and now the car is at the garage for evaluation.
I suspect the distribution chain, but can It brake like that ?
Otherwise I have no clue.

too low engine oil level or... completely dried up engine??? Confused
It sounds as a lack of lubrication to me and the high friction could cause a rapid slowdown in your engine's rpm.
Did you notice any smoke from the exhaust or any particular smell? puma 2.2 MY2013

Could be oil pump but you would have expected the production line to to get the updated parts as well, especially on such a new vehicle.

having run a few transit vans over the years we have suffered cam carriers breaking on the TDCI engine.
So basically the valves don't get operated which could cause engine to stop quickly.

After 3 days in the shop, they didn't find the problem yet.

The engine won't start anymore, they think about the diesel high pressure pomp, but they are not even sure about it.

So car is blocked for 10 days, the time it take to have a new pomp, then they gona change it. After that if it's not working they start to open the engine and look into it.

I love my Defender unbreakable car !!!

Rhaaaa !!

So finally I got my car back, 7 weeks !!
They change the engine HP pump, the high pressure valve, the ECU, a few join, and the winner is:

Broken Injector

It was working well in a electronic point of view, so always ok when you do a test but it was mechanically broken, and gasoline where just liking in the engine, and sometime 'boom' an explosion but not at the right time ! (that was the mechanical noise).
So they replace it, clean all the exhaust pipe.

But now we are keeping a close eyes to the engine to be sure they is no more trouble on it.

Good to hear your problem is solved. Your dealer, or JLR owe you one now. So you should get good service in future.
