To save lots of waffle...
As bought:- Currently:- Click image to enlarge The Start... So having enjoyed everyone else's 'My Defender' threads and learning oodles from them, I thought it was about time and only fair I contribute with my own. However a pre-warning, please do not expect anything special, new or amazing. We bought our 62 plate 110XS SW in Orkney Grey (previously thought to be Stornoway but who knows!?) back in June last year. I'm a life long Land Rover fan having grown up in them but this is my wife's everyday 'car'! We wanted something to tow a horse trailer, be a family tourer and camping wagon and allow us to get in to the wilds (ish). So with the Defender ceasing production and just turning 40 I thought what better time to get back in a Defender! Couldn't be more happy with our decision and the wife loves it too! As much as I like heavily modified Defenders with our budget, and it being a keeper we just want to make it a little more everyday usable and with some hopefully nice subtle mods that the likes of yourselves would notice but most people wouldn't. So LRH as we bought her, I believe a standard XS model 7 seat station wagon just with a full set of seat covers. It had a new clutch under warranty the weekend before we bought it. We've had the LTB00585 gear selection mod and clutch set up properly (thanks to threads on here), as well as some corrosion to window surround, all before the warranty ran out (thanks to Marshalls). The gear selection is certainly not car like but I think the LTB00585 helped and the clutch is certainly much better. 1st mod - Padded cubby lid from FCX (great service). Really easy to fit following some guidance from YOLO110 (on a separate thread). Such a small mod makes such a difference to the interior, great improvement. Before: After: 2nd Mod - Terrafirma rear bumpers, bought off a fellow Def2 member (thanks Hairysteve). Just wanted to add some protection to rear corners and I'm very pleased with these. I prefer the look of the NAS rear step but for towing and kids getting in the back (they love riding in the far back) the Dixon Bate hitch and step make more sense. The terrafirma bumperettes also add some protection to the actual corner/side which the nas doesn't really. Before: Click image to enlarge After: Click image to enlarge 3rd Mod - MSS Glove box conversion from FCX (again great service, very fast delivery). Easy to fit following the MMS Youtube video, no problems at all. I must admit it doesn't 'snap/click' shut but not sure if its supposed to? Makes a very useful little bit of extra storage. No photos cos really nothing to see! 4th mod - Flatdog LED Headlights with Angel Eye DRL's. Spur of the moment buy as they were on offer pre Christmas, really great service (ordered 3pm and received following day!). Just looking to improve the amount of light and these seemed to be highly recommended within my budget and I like the full 'halo'. I bought the piggyback side light loom from Mud UK (great service) to make them fully plug and play. Installed today using this video on Youtube (I like my hand held as I'm not a practical man!!). Really straight forward installation no problems at all. Any time I remove anything I have been coating any hidden areas in ACF50 just to help rust prevention. I wish I'd bought some new headlight 'rings' (the bit that clamp the headlight to the light angle adjusting part, sorry no idea what things are called) as they are badly corroded already. Will probably change these soon. I've just wired the halo to the side lights. I prefer to drive with side lights on all the time as at least then you have some lights on the back as well. I'm really pleased with them especially how they look with the black 'face' and the full halo, big improvement imo. However now having 'white' LED headlights I think I'm going to have at least change the side light to LED as they now look very orange in comparison! I won't ask for recommendations here as I know there is a ton of info written already I just need to search!! Before: After: Lights off side lights low beam high beam Well that's all for now. I have a very long, ever growing list. It will be going in to have underseal, soundproofing and a bit more done shortly. It already has some 'layers' of security and will be getting a little more when it goes in. May I just say a huge thank you to you all on Def2 (and Angry Pumas on FB) who have helped with advice, tips and inspiration. I'm off on my first Def2 outing to Thetford next month and can't wait! I'll keep you updated (if anyone's interested!) Last edited by JOW240725 on 21st Feb 2021 8:33pm. Edited 6 times in total |

Really nice motor, but I would say that, mine is exactly the same. As Matt said, I think that it's Orkney

Thanks for the comments
It would appear I need to change the subject title, not sure why I thought is was Stornoway! Scott - the clutch wasn't so much a modification, just needed setting up properly. It had virtually no travel and just didn't feel right. Mcma1 - I've had words with my son! |

So first trip green laning with some fellow D2 member, great day out thoroughly enjoyed it! Really nice to meet some of you and can't wait to do it again!
Before its bath.... After 3 hours washing which was its first proper underside wash and amazed how much crude gets places... Bramble rash wasn't as bad as it sounded... Click image to enlarge I appreciate this not very exciting but it's a bit of a diary for myself at least |

Well she's had quite a bit of work done, but not quite finished so I'll write that up fully shortly.
For now I've just swapped the grille. I bought a 2nd grille (thanks to Def90) with the plan to get it painted to suit my current fancy but when it turned up it's brand new and very shiny. I'm not normally a shiny person, it being a little too bling for my personal tastes, but having given her a good clean this morning I wondered what it might look like.... JOW, it suits the headlights nicely Should go for the surrounds too. And with your 'new' black Boosts, it will look apart. MY15 Aintree 110 SW - for sale - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82781.html
