As I understand this you might have to have it checked by an authorised agent and it might go on a Q plate for not getting enough points on the originality system.
This is not fact as I'm not 100% on Uk rulings but after reading various builds where people have built vehicles out of different ones this is what has happened. Sorry I can't be more help. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

Its from Sierra Leone so it won't have eu certificate of conformity.
I've imported before no bother at all but this is the first non eu vehicle I've done. I have a rhd bulkhead dash and column available so it's not a issue there 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) 2015 Discovery 4.5 Black pack Firenze red XS 2008 Corris Grey 110 XS USW (sold) 2011 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold) |

Slightly off topic but will it save you money in the long run? With all the work involved and parts to buy to do the conversion buy an engine etc and I bet insurance company's will load the price with what will be classed as modifications, surely in the end it will be just as cheap to buy an English one ready built? What age / spec is the landie.
A mate of mine bought a ROW spec (300TDI) in the UK and exported it out to Sierra Leone. He then brought it back 3 years later to import and it was a pain in the behind. The ROW spec have a number of subtle differences which the testers weren't happy about such as different (or lack of?) brake balancing valves etc etc. Additionally, every single modification he'd done to the vehicle had to be removed and put back to factory state before he could get it through the test. this included spot lights, CB wiring etc. He was given an age related plate however not a 'Q'. One thing to watch with Sierra Leone is the humidity causes all of the material in the car to go manky and he never got rid of the mouldy smell. Given that you can buy a 2.4 puma now from £8k upwards, I think it would have to be a relatively newish car to make the whole exercise cost effective. |

Do they have something against 2nd row doors in Sierra Leone? There's something of a shortage in that photo!
