Running Hours V Mileage
Hey peeps. One thing that always puzzled me with LR was that they never put an engine he clock in them not even the MOD ones and as most of us know they spend a lot of time at idle at work sites etc. Anyways I recently fitted a MadMan EMS2 unit. This has an Hour counter and you can set it to alert you for services rather than using distance.

I like this idea but wonder what sort of hours do people think a service should be at ??

I guess if you average 30mph when driving normally and want to stick to LR's 12,000 mile service intervals then I suppose every 400 hours? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Personally I'd service every 250 hours as a engine at idle is actually under more stress than at 2000rpm

I'm also running the EMS2 and I service my vehicle every year regardless if I did enough km or not. I work on 250/300hrs. This is the first year using the EMS2 but it looks like it will be in that range.

I originally used my Defender for farm/sheep type jobs if I was fencing or feeding animals the engine would be running hours but maybe only a few miles clocked.

Cheers for the replays.

Interestingly speaking to a work materials who is a Yank, he was saying that some wagons in America have odometers but as you flick through the trip computer it displays engine hours and engine idle hours and then the dealership tailors the service compared on what the two hours are

Oddly, the gfs Smart displays running hours at several trip levels - top level one has not been reset since she got it so gives some interesting stats on total mileage, running time and overall average speed - something like 22mph last time I looked!
