Returning from a snowboard session in Snowdonia today, I decided to take the short cut down the twisty steep as
![]() All we could do was dig a channel to get a tire in to the bottom of the hill, about 1/2 a mile. Suitably knackered now. Dropping tire pressure had no effect -might have made things worse and even in low with diff lock on and feet no-where near the pedals the back was trying to overtake! Could have accelerated out of that but things would be a lot worse. Top tip, which was buried at the back of my mind from an off-roading past, was to stop and start with the ignition key with all in gear and handbrake off. No need to touch pedals as that was where it was going wrong. Dragging a spare tyre/ground anchor on a long line would have really helped too but had neither. Can't wait for these General Grabber ATs to wear out. MTs next me thinks..... |

Pom - didn't you do this recently?
My Grabbers (and many mates Grabbers) have been fantastic in this snow and ice. No issues at all. Any loss of grip has been through driving wrongly (and learning from it each time) not through poor tyres. They are M&S rated for a reason. Run them at lowish pressures and short of studded tyres, not much will perform better. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Interesting thread - I've been considering changing from factory Grabber TRs to AT2s as the stock tyre seems to have been especially bad in the recent compacted snow - doesn't want to dig in at all.
I don't do much 'proper' off-roading, so can't really justify the possible noise/economy penalties of muds, beside which I've heard mixed reports of their use on compact snow and ice. What is the collective opinion of Grabber AT2s? Just in case all this snow nonsense carries on well into the New Year... 1953 80 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |

Spoke to Andy at AJ Tyres and he said he has AT2's on his landrover. Enough for me !

My thoughts exactly! This is the reason i have 4 chains not 2, maximum control down slippy hills when its icy! It may be a pain fitting and removing them but you always get home in one piece! Pete. |

Swmbo's disco 2 has performed flawlessly in the snow on AT2's I'm really happy to by another set when they wear up. 10k miles so far this year with no abnormal signs of wear.

Really won't make much difference changing tyres from at2 to mtr, buy some chains instead, they will stave off gravity slightly longer. I live in the North York Moors and believe me gravity always wins Original Member Pie n Pea Club.
