I found the reference to changing the colours in the user manual but its only for the CD based units. never mind. 2016 D4 HSE

Today a little bit of fettling. I have a consistent leak from the driver side windscreen bolts, so as it was dry I preheated my new tube of Sikaflex in the house and then went out to remove the 3 x 10mm bolts. Cleaned the surrounding area. The windscreen exterior part is one lump, with threads in and what looks like a paper/fabric gasket. One of the three bolts had some clear grease right on the end but in no way was this enough to seal it against water ingress. No wonder it was leaking. I put a bead of Sikaflex around each bolt head along the shank and then on the outside I sealed the individual holes one by one with a ring of sikaflex, on the body panel itself. Whilst this part was off I noticed my windscreen to bulkhead foam seal is sunk in quite heavily on this side, allowing water to collect and potentially pass through, so I smoothed a bead of sikaflex along here too to seal this gap. All went back together smoothly and obviously was just enough Sikaflex as it squeezed out to the edges upon tightening. More tinkering.
I found that when I opened the rear safari door, the interior lights didn't come on, but they do with the fronts, so I suspected the door plunger switch. When I looked at it closely it was clear that corrosion was probably the issue, as the retaining screw was corroded as you can see. Click image to enlarge In order to wiggle the switch out you must remove the CSW rear quarter trim panel, very easy, just pull away. Then you can see this view: Click image to enlarge Unclip the electrical supply spade and you can pull the switch out. It's a simple design, the plunger switch earths itself on the bodywork, but is only earthed once the screw goes through the retainer and makes the connection. Mine was corroded so I gave it a quick rub down with emery paper. The plunger was sticking a bit too, so I used a dab of WD40 until it was nice and free, then dried it off. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Then it was just a case of putting it back in and using a nice new screw to get good metal earthing contact, put it back in. A quick test revealed all was well. Hold the plunger in and the lights dim after 20 seconds, release the plunger and on they come again. Simples. Stumbled across this thread and spent most of last night with my head in the computer until gone 2am this morning reading every word and pricing up these mods on the internet! I've got so much inspiration from this thread I'm even going to order myself a rivet gun it seems that is a key tool for modding a Defender! I might have to hide the bank statements for the next few months

Why do you have the Parrott if you have a BT radio..? I connect my phone via BT to my Alpine radio and it does phone calls as well play audio from my phone (podcasts etc).
I used to have a Parrott 3100 before I had the BT radio, but ditched it. Just wondered if I'm missing some feature..?. The 90 is looking very good, your attention to detail is impressive. I'm still thinking of updating my TD5 to a TDCi (possibly going from 90 to 110 too) so it's good to see what you have done to yours. Cheers Simon |

Winter time and the low sunshine can be a bit of a pain in a Defender.
The sun visors almost block out half the windscreen! The main problem though is the huge gaps around the rear view mirror and the sun visors, you can bet your bottom dollar that's where the sunlight will poke through and blind you! To combat this, I have bought a graduated windscreen sun strip off ebay and will shape a piece for the centre, to cover the areas that I get blinded. (In my old Series 3 when I was 17, I just used some very wide black sticky tape to block out the light - it was very effective!) This time it will look a little more professional, and fitting is as easy as window tinting film. For £5 you get a strip that's 120cm long, so plenty there for mistakes and wastage. Well, I've been pottering about in the Defender, taking the dog for a walk to the muddy woods, been out shooting and I can report that the Dirt D Fenders do a cracking job.

I notice on your list of things to do there is a BAS remap and an Alive Suspension set-up. Given that Alive are a tuning specialist and you are already taking it to them for the suspension, is there a particular reason why you've decided to go BAS remap rather than Alive?
